Carnegie Mellon University Schatz Dining Room & Marketplace
Landau Building Company was the construction manager for the 10,130 SF renovations to Carnegie Mellon University’s Schatz Dining and Marketplace located within the Jared L. Cohon University Center. The project was split into two parts with Schatz Dining completed during Summer 2019 and Marketplace finished in December 2020.

Schatz Dining added a technology enhanced demonstration kitchen . The kitchen was modified to have a front line with cameras, monitors, and audio which can live stream cooking demonstrations both inside of the dining room and throughout campus. The combination of AV infrastructure enhancements and all new kitchen equipment installation made this a complex project.

The 5,168 SF Marketplace renovations included open retail to-go style venues with several different concepts such as Beefsteak, Grano Pizza & Pasta, Student Choice/Innovative Kitchen and Back Bar Grille. The concept required specialized equipment in each designated area. The Food Service Package was significant and demanded consummate coordination with the various trade groups. Major upgrades of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and lighting systems were completed.

WVU Medicine L2-L5 Perioperative Renovations
Landau Building Company was the general contractor for a four-phase renovation of WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital’s Level 2 and Level 5 Perioperative Department. On Level 2, the first phase infilled existing unused elevator shafts creating space for consultation rooms for the hospital’s same day surgery suite. Surrounding areas and corridors were renovated into waiting space with a new reception desk. During phases 2 & 3, new reception/waiting areas for the 5th floor surgery department were built by extending onto the roofs of two elevator shafts. New curtainwall was installed to match the hospital’s exterior.
The new waiting room/reception areas also were expanded into the hospital. The approximately 10,000 SF perioperative area was renovated with 21 patient rooms, 4 nurse’s stations, a corner breakroom and support areas. The fourth and final phase was 12,000 SF and included renovations and updates to nurse’s stations, corridors, staff lounge, multiple locker rooms, a 10-bed PACU, and 14-bed recovery area.
