Middle School/ High School News
The hard work, creativity, and commitment overflowed this week as we served our community, made memories, and honored our seniors. With Bracken Serves, senior chapel, a pep rally, Coronation, and prom, we had a busy, but exciting week!
Coronation
2021 Coronation Court
King Jace Stirm
Queen Claire Shannon
Prince Ty Wolf
Princess Brogan Ortman
Duke Ryan Jester
Dutchess Madi Cobb
Baron Cody McCoy
Baroness Isabelle Isgro

Coronation is a long-standing Bracken tradition that is as special as it is unique. It's an event that honors the senior class, recognizes family and key people in the seniors' lives, and crowns two members of each high school class for the court. As the gym is transformed into an elegant venue, so are the seniors as they arrive red-carpet ready in dashing suits and dazzling gowns. Stepping out onto the stage, each senior's Bracken biography is read describing their time as a Warrior and their plans for the future. Letters written by seniors thanking their parents, family, and other special people in their lives are then read (with the risk of triggering a few tears) followed by letters from parents to their child. Once each senior has been recognized, the peer-selected court is announced and crowned. But they don't stop there! After family photos, the seniors and the newly-crowned court wind their way through the halls of Bracken where they are met with applause by the youngest Warriors who stare in awe at their role models' extraordinary new look. Coronation gives seniors and their loved ones some well-deserved recognition and memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations, 2021 seniors, their families, and the Coronation court!
Prom
Sophomore Class
It took over 100 hours and numerous volunteers working into the (very) early hours of the morning to transform the gym into a dreamy little piece of Venice. A million thanks to Kendra Crerand who, along with dedicated volunteers, transformed an ordinary gym into a magical setting for coronation and prom. Many volunteers assisted her in design, donations, set up, clean up, and countless other ways. She would like to specifically acknowledge: Nancy Young, the Janowiaks, Katsy Joiner, Amy Day, Karagan Day and family, Cynthia Prater, Laura Wood, Terri Sanders, Christina Wood, the Stirms, the Kacmars, Teri Jennings, the Pattersons, Kelly Humphries, Ann Shannon, Mrs.Holland, the Vandergriffs, the Slussers, the Grinsteads for the donation of gelato/italian sodas, and Bulverde Baptist Church (the Brands) for lending plants. Thank you to all! Your efforts created the stage for a day and evening of beautiful memories.
Service Day
On Wednesday, the middle and high school students participated in the second "Bracken Serves" service day of the school year providing assistance in various ways to sixteen different nonprofit organizations throughout the local community. Some of those included Bulverde Baptist Church, The Hope Center Food Pantry, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, The SHARE Center, Bulverde Assisted Living, The Loft Coffee House, Hill Country Daily Bread, The Vintage Barn, and Hillside Fellowship.
Senior Chapel and "Hats Off to Seniors" Pep Rally
After a special chapel hosted by the senior class, seniors were treated to some unique gifts at the "Hats Off to Seniors" pep rally. Student council members presented each senior with a "custom-made" hat that highlighted their individual personalities, interests, sports and other activities. It turns out that you can tell a lot about someone by what they wear!

Fifth Grade Chapel
The fifth grade chapel was full of imagination and valuable lessons for us all. Entertaining, humorous and inspiring, the fifth graders took charge of writing their entire chapel presentation and cleverly reminded us about the power of the words we use. Our words can hurt or they can help. Choose them wisely.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Reading is always more fun when you have a fury, cuddly friend to read to. The STREAM second grade class has been enjoying reading "Owls in the Family" along with...Who? Who? Oh, yes -- their stuffed animal owl buddies!
