Overnight Outings are Back!
Beginning June 1 units can begin overnight campouts and outings. We have updated our camping protocols and FAQ’s to encompass overnight outings including camping and backpacking by units. We hope every unit will be able to resume overnight activities this summer. If you have any questions, please reach out to your unit commissioners.

Commissioner's Corner
Commissioner service is a vital and important concept in Scouting. Members of our volunteer Commissioner Corps embrace the responsibility of impacting lives of young people and communities through strengthening our units. The first commissioners grew out of a need to serve many units when the capacity of professional Scouters could not match the demand for unit service. Opportunities in today’s world have increased the need for more strong Commissioners. Your Greater Los Angeles Area Council Commissioner team is equipped to partner with you and your unit as you enjoy the Scouting program.

The most critical element of this partnership is a strong and positive relation with your Unit Commissioner. This Scouter is your first and finest resource when you need guidance in program planning, policy interpretation, or encouragement. Unit Commissioners are tasked with providing timely information to help units like yours grow and thrive. Calling All Scouters!
If you have never participated in the National Annual Meeting this could be your chance and it’s free! Based on the tremendous response to our virtual National Annual Meeting last year and in the continued best interests of our volunteers and employees, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have decided to again virtually host the 2021 National Annual Meeting on May 25 – 28.

We are offering a new session called “Fireside Chats” to be held daily from 12pm to 1pm CDT on various topics led by our esteemed volunteers. Click here for more information and registration.
Pfizer Vaccine Approved for 12-15 year-olds
LACDPH has approved distribution of the Pfizer COVID vaccine for 12-15 year old youths beginning tomorrow, May 13. Scouting Leaders should encourage all eligible Scouts and leaders to get vaccinated.

The best way to register in LA County is via California’s or the City of LA’s websites. Other websites work but not sure about whether they have Pfizer.

Come Join Us For Some "Weird Science” at Camp Trask's Twilight Camp for Cubs
Did you know that "Cub Day Camp" does not have to be conducted during the middle of the day? Come join us at Camp Trask in Monrovia for a week long Twilight Camp in the late afternoon and early evening. The theme this year is "Weird Science!" Swimming, shooting sports, nature, handicraft and, of course, "Weird Science!" will be just some of the activities that will be offered for our Wolves, Bears and Webelos/ AOL. Parents/ guardians who are staying during the program will also be able to enjoy their own program if they wish. We ask only that the Adults show proof of their current Youth Protection Training.

BSA Veteran Award
The BSA Veteran award recognizes individual members for tenure in Scouting. The recognition item is a lapel pin denoting the number of years of service. This pin is worn only on civilian clothing and not on the scout uniform. The veteran award is an adult recognition only. However, tenure earned as a youth may be included in the total number of years registered. Pins can be purchased at the local scout shop after confirmation is received from national records. Currently, 5-year to 90-year pins are available on scoutshop.org
After five years of registered service in the Boy Scouts of America, an adult may, upon application, receive the designation of "Veteran," provided the person agrees to live up to the Scouting obligations...
