PES Principal Message

9/11/20
Mrs. Dahl's blended class works collaboratively, in person and virtually, to research the regions of Texas.
Puster Families,

It is hard to believe we have already been in school for 4 weeks! Whether your child is a virtual learner or an on-campus learner, we hope it's been a great week of building skills and relationships.

This first week has been full of practicing on-campus procedures and routines, then revising as necessary. A couple of notes:

  • Afternoon carline seems to be running more smoothly. As students learn their car numbers and routines, I expect we will move even more swiftly. We began calling students a bit earlier this week for practice. Next week, we won't begin calling students until dismissal time at 3:10.
  • We are really trying to limit parents dropping off items to campus unless medically necessary. Teachers have disposable cups and masks should a student forget a water bottle or a mask. Thank you for your help with this.
  • Our building does not open until 7:30 a.m. For safety, please plan to keep your child in the car with you if you arrive early. If you have a special circumstance, please reach out to me.
  • Students no longer have access to microwaves in the lunchroom. If your child is not eating a school lunch, please send a lunch that does not require heating.
  • What can we help with on your end?

While I hated to miss this week, Mrs. Rawlins and Mr. Smith kept me updated on campus news and even sent me pictures. Thank you for the well-wishes for Chad. He will be back in action in no time and he says "thank you" as well. I look forward to being back in action myself next week!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Puster Proud,
Holly

Learning with Your Librarian
Hello Parents!
I am excited about our next Virtual Check Out Pick-Up day! If you requested books and they are available for you to pick up, you will receive an email from me at some point today.

For our next pick up day, students have the option to put a hold on a book via our Destiny Catalog system as well as request a librarian-selected book based on their interests. For books to be available for pick up they need to be requested prior to the Friday pick up day. Anything requested on or after the pick-up day will be prepared for the following week.

If you had requested a book via the form this week or last week, and you want an additional book next week, you will need to either resubmit the form or email me to let me know that you would like another book.

For more detailed information on how to complete these requests and to make sure there is a book available for you to pick up please review the following document.

Happy Reading,

Parents,
Over the next two weeks in SEL we will be discussing safe practices regarding COVID-19 (proper hand washing, social distancing, etc.) We will also talk about how listening can help you be successful in school. If you ever have any questions about our SEL lessons, please don't hesitate contacting me.

School Dismissal Manager Fast Facts
Here are a few Fast Facts that you will need to know for getting started:
1.  Please use this website to log in to SDM at www.schooldismissalmanager.com. The initial login is best completed from a computer as opposed to your phone.
2.   The Parent Login area is found at the top right of the SDM homepage.
3.   When you log in for the first time, you will be required to change your password immediately.
4.   Please refer to the Parent Guide for Creating Exceptions for details on how to use the system.
5.   As you begin to use School Dismissal Manager, if you have questions, please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) link found in the Parent login area at the top of the SDM homepage. Here, you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions. If your question remains unanswered after checking here, please contact the school office and we will be happy to assist you further.
6.   When you start to receive the email notifications of changes or cancellations that are made for your child, please keep in mind that hitting Reply or Reply All on those emails does not reply to the school. If you need to respond to a notification (i.e., to inform the school it is incorrect, provide additional details, etc.) please call the school directly and talk with someone in the office.
7.   Each school day, School Dismissal Manager will send a comprehensive dismissal report to the school immediately following the cut-off time, allowing administrators and staff to facilitate a smooth dismissal.

Thank you for using this tool to help us keep the dismissal process safe and orderly for all our students.

Foundation for Lovejoy Schools
We’re excited to kick off our Annual Appeal campaign!  Our goal is to raise $250,000 and have 40% community involvement. The students of Lovejoy ISD are touched by Foundation dollars in every school and grade throughout the district. Now, more than ever, they need our support to ensure no interruption to the Lovejoy standard of exceptional learning.

New this year, three giving options! Teacher Grant Fund, One Heart. One Lovejoy. Fund, or a 50/50 split. Visit our website today to learn more and donate!
Kids First Registration
Kids 1st registration is now open.

Due to limited staffing and the management of social distancing on each campus, we will be limiting the number of students accepted into the after school program. We will start off accepting 25 students on each campus and at this time will only be accepting full time tuition.

We will continue to monitor the situation and guidance from the CDC and HHSC and if we are able to add additional staff and students while still maintaining social distancing practices, I will send out a communication to let parents know.
