Hi folks,
As we count down these last few days of February and look forward to more of this spring like weather, it seems to be an appropriate time to say thanks to our NBJH community for your continued support this year. At a time when some districts are just now bringing students back to buildings or are in disagreement about how to safely reopen their schools, we're extremely thankful that we have been able to offer in-person and remote learning since late August. Our entire community has embraced our newly established health and safety practices, the district has offered vaccinations to all D28 staff members and all of us have demonstrated flexibility when the need to pivot to a different course of action has been warranted. It definitely takes a village! Hopefully these final few months are just as positive and productive as the previous six!
Spring Events
We are excited about some extracurricular opportunities we will be offering students after we return from spring break. These activities include:
- The PTO is currently organizing our LIFT Day (Career Day) event for Friday, April 23rd. In March all students will choose from a variety of guest presenters who will discuss their experiences as a professional. Then on LIFT Day each student will attend three virtual sessions that afternoon.
- NBJH will be holding a spring musical this year. This year's selection is "Golly Gee Whiz" and we hope to share the production with families in mid-May. Mr. Downing and Ms. Apetean are in the process of conducting clinics with tryouts coming up in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to reach out to either sponsor with any questions you may have.
- Our track and field season will begin in April. Track and field is a co-ed "no cut" sport open to all students -- in-person and RLA -- who are academically eligible. We plan to hold only dual meets with the other three NB middle schools. NBJH and Wood Oaks will be the host sites for each of the scheduled dual meets. We will share additional information about the season via the channel 24 news and through PE classes.
- Perhaps most importantly...yes, we will be holding a graduation celebration for our Class of 2021 this year. Our scheduled calendar date is currently Tuesday, June 1st, but at this time it looks like we will be holding an outdoor celebration rather than an indoor ceremony. I have upcoming meetings planned with the 8th grade team, our PTO and the other Northbrook middle school principals to discuss viable options. Stay tuned for updated information.
Winter MAP Reports
We concluded our winter MAP testing for math and reading and plan to send home individual MAP reports to families at the end of next week.
Summer School
District 28 is currently planning to hold Summer School and Extended School Year (ESY) from June 9th through July 2nd. More details about registration will be coming in March. Check out the summer school website for additional information.
Have a great weekend...
