Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

One of my favorite school events during Lent is the Stations of the Cross with the students.  The OLOL Lenten Committee would like to have families participate in the Stations of the Cross as a school family.  The OLOL Parish is having Stations of the Cross on Tuesday, April 5th at 6:30pm in church.  One of Fr. Jim’s goals is to better connect the school and parish.  Having all of our school families attend Stations of the Cross on Tuesday, April 5th would help in building this connection.  Please take a moment out of your schedule and join us on the path that Jesus took to ensure that we have eternal life.  I would love to see you there.

I would like to share the results of the GRACE Voice of the Customer Survey which some of you participated in January.   I was very pleased and impressed with the results.  The great majority believe in what we are doing and support us.  Thank you!!  I know that OLOL Catholic school exists because of the families that make up our school.  We are here to serve you and give your child the best educational experience possible.  I need to ensure that administration, staff, and parents are all working together for the same goal; properly educating our students so they can reach their fullest potential.  Please review the OLOL survey HERE and the GRACE survey HERE  Any parent can always reach out to discuss the survey or anything else that relates to OLOL Catholic School.

The Lenten Dinner and School Carnival is this Friday.  The carnival is being put together by our 8th grade class and all proceeds go to their 8th grade trip. I encourage all of you to attend and support our school and 8th graders.  I always try to be at every OLOL school event but unfortunately I will be out of town for a surgery my mother is going through.  I will be thinking of you.  Thank you to the Spencer and Lehman family for all of their hard work on this event.

If you haven’t done so, please complete the Parish Verification Form that you need to complete prior to June.  The form was located in TADS when you enrolled.  If you need a copy we have some in the school office.  You can stop by and fill it out in the school office.  We can also send it home with your child.  Fr. Jim would like to meet with each school family as a way to introduce himself and build a great school/parish community.  We are setting up meetings via the Parish Verification Form which is why we would like them completed as soon as possible.  If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me.

“Criticism of others is thus an oblique form of self-commendation.  We think we make the picture hang straight on our wall by telling our neighbors that all their pictures are crooked.” - Bishop Fulton Sheen

Enrollment for 2022-2023 going on now!

Enrollment is NOW OPEN for 2022 - 2023

  • Returning families: More info is available here
  • New families: Please share info with family, friends and neighbors.

New this year: During enrollment, you are asked to complete and submit the Parish Verification Form to obtain the Active Parishioner Rate (lower tuition). The form is due by June 1, 2022. The form and details are available on the Tuition and Fees webpage. (See additional information below from GRACE).

Enrollment: Parish Verification Form

Enrollment for 2022-23 is off to a very brisk pace, and we are pleased many of you have re-enrolled. We have already created waitlists for a few grades at some of our schools.

As reviewed in my January letter to you, new to the enrollment process for students in grades K through 10 this year is the Parish Verification Form.

This new process supports the meaningful relationship between our families and our GRACE parishes in harmony with our mission of growing in our Catholic faith. This process also recognizes our GRACE parishes who significantly support our schools through their financial investments.

  • Families enroll K-10 students with the Standard Rate of tuition in our TADS.com enrollment management system.
  • After enrollment, families are to complete - with their GRACE parish - the Parish Verification Form. Upon receipt of verification, the family’s TADS Billing Account will be adjusted to the Active Parishioner Rate (lower rate).
  • Your parish office will help guide you through the process of obtaining their verification. Our parishes define what ‘active parishioner’ means in each parish.
  • The Parish Verification Form and instructions are provided during the online enrollment process in TADS. Information is also available at gracesystem.org | Admissions | Parish Verification Form.
  • Please submit your completed Form which includes verification by your parish representative to GRACE Riverside Office by June 1, 2022. Tuition payments for 2022-23 begin in July annually. Submission instructions are on the Form.
  • Completed verification forms will be processed in batches at regular intervals. Each family will receive an email when their Form is processed and their TADS Billing Account is adjusted.

Thank You!

Thank you to Catholic Financial Life Insurance (CFLI) and Carol & Bob Augustian for the support of our school library!

During Catholic Schools Week, sales from the Scholastic Book Fair were matched up to $500 by CFLI. For 10+ years, Mr. & Mrs. Augustian, OLOL parishioners, have coordinated this $$ match with CFLI for our school library.

This $500 donation will be used to purchase books for our school library.

Computer Science for All

csforall-logo.jpg

The use of technology and the computer science curriculum is incorporated throughout the school day for students of all ages.

Another important component is the proper and efficient use of the various tools, which includes the keyboard!

For some of us, we may recall learning on a typewriter. For the students, they learn using the desktop computer keyboard and the chrome book.

We teach the basics of the keyboard for the K-2 students, to locate/identify the letters and how to make an uppercase letter. Starting in third grade, students learn the proper technique of touch typing.

Keyboarding skills require practice and can be done anytime a student is using a device with a keyboard.

Breakout Kits!

During the next few weeks, the students in grades 3-8 will be using their knowledge in a breakout experience.

The Breakout kits will have students using their knowledge in collaborating on how they can unlock the Breakout Box using information that they have learned from their Math, LA, Science, Religion and Social Studies classes.

The students shared what they have been learning and Mrs. Fink is assembling the information into their custom Breakout Kit!

The locks shown will be set and can be unlocked by the students if they can solve the clues.

Will they breakout? We shall see in the next couple of weeks!
