Parent Edition
February 25, 2021

Please note that our Return to Learn Plan is an addendum to our Student Handbook. You are reminded of the following procedures for Quarantine and Student Travel:

Quarantine
IF A HOUSEHOLD MEMBER OF A STUDENT OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS WAITING FOR RESULTS, THE STUDENT OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE MUST QUARANTINE AND MAY NOT COME TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE RESULTS ARE KNOWN AND THE SCHOOL NURSE HAS GRANTED PERMISSION TO RETURN.

When informed an immediate household member has been tested, the student or staff who resides in the same home will quarantine until the result of the test is confirmed negative. If the result of the immediate household member's test is positive, the student or staff member who resides in the same home will quarantine for 10 days.

Students or staff who may have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 are required to quarantine for 10 days, even if the student or staff tests negative or feels healthy since symptoms may appear 2 to 10 days after exposure to the virus. Please see the latest criteria from the Centers for Disease Control on "exposure" and "quarantine."

Please be reminded, if a student tests positive for COVID-19, families are obligated to inform the school for the health and safety of the entire school community. This applies even when we are not in person or in session. Please email the school nurse at sdeluca@yorkcatholic.org.

Student Travel
School staff and school community members will abide by the Diocese of Harrisburg requirement on quarantine for travelers to other states. Any school staff or students traveling outside of PA are required to quarantine for 10 days. Likewise, any school staff or students entering the US from abroad (international travel) are required to quarantine for 10 days. Since international travel includes a wide range of situations, those affected bring their individual circumstances to the principal who will consult with the Secretary for Education to make a final determination.

This applies to those who have traveled outside of Pennsylvania. It does not apply to household members who did not travel out of state. However, if the individual who is under quarantine develops any signs or symptoms or has a positive test result, their close contacts, including household members, should also quarantine.

Any student or staff member who is required to quarantine must notify the following:

School Nurse:  sdeluca@yorkcatholic.org

Attendance Office:  attendance@yorkcatholic.org
Looking for a Tax Break?
Pennsylvania now allows individuals to take advantage of EITC Tax Credits (just as businesses can) whereby you have the opportunity to re-direct 90% of your personal state income taxes to York Catholic High School.

The Special Purpose Entity (SPE) is based on tax liability, not income, therefore each taxpayer’s situation will differ. Participants must be PA residents where at least one spouse is employed or has an ownership interest in a PA for-profit business. An individual or couple filing jointly must have a state tax liability of $3,500 or more to participate. To see if you qualify for 2021, you can find your PA tax liability on Form PA-40 Line 12 of your 2020 tax return. 100% of participant contributions are distributed to the school. You have to pay these taxes regardless, so why not have a say in how your taxes are allocated? Additionally, you will receive at least a 10% personal deduction on your federal taxes. The money you re-direct to York Catholic is for educational purposes, specifically tuition assistance.

If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please follow these steps:

The last day to apply for 2021 is December 1, 2021, however, the available funds may run out prior to December, so it's recommended to apply as soon as possible.

For more information about this easy tax donation, please contact Katie Seufert, York Catholic Principal, at kseufert@yorkcatholic.org.
Re-enrollment Process
Please read the following information thoroughly as it contains important information regarding re-enrollment, course selection, and tuition assistance for the 2021-2022 school year.

Online Course Selection
Junior High
Junior High students have completed their online course selection.

Senior High
Senior High students are reminded that course selection sheets with parent and teachers’ signatures are due to homeroom teachers by February 26, 2021.
Re-enrollment
Tuition figures for next year will be published in early April after budget approval by the School Board. In order to budget appropriately, we are asking families to re-enroll now.

The re-enrollment fee is $250.00, with an increase to $300.00 after April 9, 2021. $200.00 of the re-enrollment fee will be applied to your child's 2021-2022 required technology and capital improvement fees for 2021-2022 ($100.00 each).
Refer a Friend to YC
If you know a friend, family member, or anyone looking for a high-quality, Christ-centered education for their children who do not already attend a Catholic school, you could receive a $250 credit toward your child's tuition at York Catholic.

York Catholic's Parent Referral Program is a win-win for everyone involved. Referred students receive an outstanding education from York Catholic, while parents of the referred families get peace of mind knowing their child is gaining so much more than just a top-notch education. Families who refer someone who registers at York Catholic receive a $250 credit towards their child's tuition.

You, as parents, are our best ambassadors.  In order for the Parent Referral Program to be a success, we need information about individuals who may be interested in joining the York Catholic family. All you need to do is click below to fill out the form. If the family you refer attends York Catholic through their first semester, your family's tuition will be credited $250, spread into 4 credits applied to the months of February, March, April, and May.

It really is that simple. So go ahead. Please click on the box below and allow us the opportunity to do what we love -- help to develop, nurture, and encourage children so they may grow in faith, mind, and heart. Mail or email the form to us and we will take it from there!

The Parent Referral Program is open to all parents of current York Catholic students. The tuition credit is not available for referring your own children. The $250 credit is only good toward tuition on a student's account; no cash is given, and it is non-transferrable. A referred student applies only to a new student from a non-partner school.

Thank you for all you do for our school!
For the Kids! Friday

Students may pay $1 to wear blue or gold shirts for the next four Fridays in support of the Four Diamonds fight against pediatric cancer. Blue is the official color of the Four Diamonds and yellow is the color recognized to support cancer patients. Students should pay their $1 in homeroom on Friday. Uniform pants, skirts, or skorts must be worn.

York Catholic will be providing an in-school SAT for Juniors only on Tuesday, April 27. All Juniors wishing to take the SAT at York Catholic on this date must submit payment and registration by March 1. The SAT registration form will be distributed in homerooms this week and is also available in the guidance office or by clicking here. The cost of the SAT exam is $52 and checks should be made payable to York Catholic. SAT Practice on Khan Academy
Parents of 11th grade students will want to encourage their student to prepare to take the SAT by practicing the English Reading and Writing and Math problems available at www.khanacademy.org in the SAT Preparation section. Khan Academy accounts were set up in math classes and Juniors can add the SAT Preparation course to their account. The best way to practice for the SAT occurs after linking the PSAT scores available in December 2020, with Khan Academy. Click here for a video with instructions on linking College Board PSAT scores with Khan Academy. If your Junior needs assistance with the linking, please have him or her schedule a time with Mrs. Phillips and have your child bring their Chromebook and Khan Academy login information to the meeting.

Failure to submit the required online and offline paperwork by the deadline will mean the student will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season. For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team. Students wishing to play a spring sport MUST verify the paperwork and ImPACT test are on file with Mr. Cross no later than Wednesday, March 3, at 3 PM; no exceptions.

Physicals
Spring athletes needing a physical can call OSS Health to schedule an appointment at 717-848-4800. Appointment times are being offered March 2 at the Hanover location. A parent or guardian should accompany the student-athlete. Cost is $15. Click here for the OSS flyer. Please be sure to complete the medical information online at www.planeths.com before arriving and only print the 2 pages indicated for the doctor to review and complete. Please note sports physicals may also be conducted by your private physician or at a local urgent care center. Co-payments apply. Physicals must be completed and uploaded to www.planeths.com no later than March 3 at 3 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Josh Cross at jcross@yorkcatholic.org or 717-846-8871 x330.
Inclement Weather
During inclement weather that would cause a school closing or delay of schedule, York Catholic will call/text/email you through our One Call Now Emergency Notification system. Other modes of notification include WGAL TV-8, Fox43, and the YC website. Students from individual school districts are automatically excused if their district closes and does not provide transportation to YCHS. The exceptions to this are Southern and Southeastern. These students follow York Catholic's delay and closing schedule.
