That’s not all folks! Linda also volunteers on the Voter Service Committee as the voter registration volunteer coordinator. This is good news for LWVPC!

Welcome aboard Linda!

LWVAR Educational Fund Scholarship

The LWV Educational Fund Scholarship committee received twenty-two

Voter Service Scholarship applications. In January the committee selected four

outstanding college students to receive the inaugural scholarship. The awardees

are Zaynab Johnson, Chiquita White, Brea Jackson, and Grace Carey. All attend

Philander Smith University.

On Thursday, February 1, committee chair Devita Harden (LWVPC) met

two of the recipients, Zaynab and Chiquita. Both were grateful to receive the

scholarship to assist them in their pursuit of obtaining their college degree.

As a bonus Devita was introduced to PSU Interim President Hopson by

NAACP College Chapter Coordinator, Dr. Jesse Hargrove. Dr. Hargrove and

President Hopson expressed their thanks to LWV and their desire to continue our partnership in providing voter engagement opportunities to the students.

March 10 - 16 is Sunshine Week

Sunshine Week, held the week of James Madison’s birthday (March 16), is a nationwide effort to open up dialogue on the importance of transparency in government and freedom of information. During this week, the League of Women Voters and other “good government” groups can encourage citizens to play an active role in promoting open government at all levels.

Journalists, civic groups, libraries, schools and others interested in the public’s right to know have banded together to help promote this nonpartisan effort to enlighten and empower individuals to play an active role in their government at all levels, and to give them access to information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger. The Sunshine Week initiative originated from the work of several newspapers, and it has grown, in large part, because of the media’s continued support.
