Celebrating Black Native Americans and Afro Latinos
Check out the beautiful work that our own student groups, Native American Student Association and Raza United, put together for Black History Month. A shout out to Ms. Gomez and Mr. Martinez for their support with this project. These slides highlight and educate us about Afro Latinos and Black Native Americans. It is a great reminder that our backgrounds are complex and often intertwined. We all carry multiple identities that deserve to be highlighted and recognized.
FAFSA Support For Seniors And Their Families
Do you have questions on how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? The FAFSA is the form a student needs to complete to apply for financial aid, such as grants and loans.

Reps from Madison College's Financial Aid Office will hold 2 free sessions to assist students and families with this important step done for students interested in attending college in the Fall.
Register here and contact Dulce Danel at dduribe@madisoncollege.edu or 608-616-3578 if you have any questions.

College Goal Wisconsin will provide free assistance on completing the FAFSA at these upcoming workshops:
  • Thursday, March 4th at 11:30am. Registration opens on February 24, at noon.
  • Thursday, April 15th at 6:00pm. Registration opens on April 6, at noon.
Register here and view the flyer for more information.

Students should attend with a parent or guardian if possible and bring specific materials necessary to complete the FAFSA. If parents are unable to attend, students may attend alone and bring these materials. Independent students should bring their own income and asset information.

Upward Bound, an East community program partner, created this Next Steps video for Seniors who have completed the FAFSA.
Service 'E' Award Applications Due March 1st
East High School’s Service ‘E’ Award is the oldest, non-academic award granted to students who have demonstrated volunteerism and service to others without financial or academic compensation. In order to receive the Service 'E' Award, students must submit their service hours (each year) using the online form after they achieve the total number of hours required for their grade level that year. *Note that the required hours number has been adjusted due to a Virtual Learning year this year. All hours for the 2020-2021 award must be submitted by Monday, March 1, 2021.

National Engineering Week
This week is National Engineers' Week. Unfortunately, we can't do a hands-on activity extravaganza for the whole community this year, but we do have these offerings for you!

Join us for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Noche de Ciencias virtual program for families on Friday, March 5th from 5:00-7:00pm. The event is for high school students, their younger family members, and parents/guardians. The event includes activities, career & college information, a welcoming space for all, but especially families of Spanish-speaking heritage. Pre-registration is needed in order for FREE materials kit (simple electronics) to be delivered.

Madison East's Engineering club created a remote activity for the February Saturday Science website (Black History Edition) at UW-Madison. Our build & design activity is the one you reach by clicking on the artist's palette or you can view it directly here.
