Meher Baba
At Meher Center, 1956
Dear Meher Center Family and Friends,

Greetings in Meher Baba’s love to you and your family. We are happy to announce that Meher Center will be holding the 2022 Young Adult Sahavas at the retreat from November 10-13. This Sahavas is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 43. Please mark the date!

Also please note: we have a correction regarding Ward Parks' seminar on "Creation and its Causes.” This presentation will be given at the Center on Oct. 21, 22, and 23.

On February 26, 1954 while touring Andhra State in India, Meher Baba said:

“The Avatar, however, wants to free people from their suffering, so He wants to make them suffer for God. This suffering is known as ‘real suffering’ because it loosens the bindings of people’s sanskaras and leads them to Reality.

“How does the Avatar bring this about? He burns His own cloak of illusion (which is His constant crucifixion) so that others’ illusory cloaks will also be burned. And the brilliance of the Avatar’s Shama (flame of a candle) attracts the moths (parwanas). The Avatar burns His own cloak of illusion to attract His lovers to Him. Once His lovers are drawn to Him, His naaz (whims of the Belovedmay make them suffer, but this suffering is ‘real suffering’ as it frees them from all suffering and eventually unites them with God.

“The life of the Avatar is an Illusion-consuming Flame. The Avatar’s lovers, like moths, gather, hovering about Him, the Flame. A few are even so possessed by love that they fly into the Flame and burn themselves, their false selves, and so experience the ‘I Am God’ state. To be so consumed, however, depends upon the grace of the Avatar.”*

In Baba’s love and service,

Lovers' Offerings
Family Letters #34
Read by Jim Meyer
17:16

These are readings of a collection of letters written by Mani, Meher Baba’s sister, to the Western family of Baba lovers between 1956 and 1969.
"His voice was so beautiful"
Naja Rustom Irani was Meher Baba's cousin (the sister of Pendu and daughter of Baba's aunt Piroja and uncle Masaji). She was also part of His intimate Mandali from the early days on. Naja was Baba's cook at His ashram and Meher Baba called her His Martha. Here, she narrates simple incidents of being with God in Human form: cooking for Him, playing games with Him, experiencing His silence and entertaining Him to lighten His universal burden.

"Baba would do something when you least expected it"
In this talk, Liz Sacalis and her sister Virginia Sadowsky tell the touching and often humorous stories of their relationship with Meher Baba. They describe their time with Baba at Meher Spiritual Center in 1956 and 1958, and their lessons of learning to be alert and ready for Baba – no matter what. Virginia describes how she came to the realization that "He was the reason that the universe came into being."
