November Election
The November election is coming soon and we are working to keep Fostorians informed of what will appear on the ballot. In the coming months we will publish our Election Guide. Watch your email and the Chamber Facebook page for more details.

Important items to keep in mind;
There are 3 seats open for the Fostoria School Board and 8 candidates will appear on the ballot. (*incumbents)
Irene Banks
Betsy Bringman
Todd Burgei
Patrick Grine*
Alexis Norris
Sharon Stannard*
Ira Turner III
Thomas Wade

There is only 1 contested race for City Council, which is Ward 4. Incumbent Tom Lake and Leland Michael Spencer will appear on the ballot for Ward 4 as they were the top vote recipients in the May Primary. Also appearing on the ballot will be Brandon Kiser, Ward 1, Don Mennel, Ward 2 as they are running unopposed.

Also appearing on the ballot will be a proposed revision to the Charter. The revision proposes a City Manager form of government and creates a Department of Parks and Recreation.

*At the September Chamber Board Meeting, the Board voted to formally endorse the the proposed changes to the City Charter after hearing from Charter Commission Chairman, Bob Green.*

There is an organized Political Action Committee, Move Fostoria Forward, actively campaigning for the proposed Charter Revision.

President Biden's COVID-19 Action Plan
Earlier this month President Biden announced an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS). The Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will issue the ETS which will be live in a matter of weeks, not months, and will be effective once it goes live. The rule is being developed and will require all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result on at least a weekly basis before coming to work. In addition, Biden's announcement will also affect over 17 million health care workers and Federal Workers and Government contractors.

We continue to watch for more information and will pass along any clarifications and timelines as they become known as well as upcoming webinars such as the one listed below by Eastman & Smith.

The Mennel Milling Company Celebrates 135th Anniversary
September 28, 2021, marks Mennel’s 135th Anniversary. It all began more than a century ago … when The Isaac Harter Milling Company was established in 1886 in Fostoria, Ohio. At the time, the Fostoria Flour Mill was the largest flour mill in the country not located on water. Alphonse Mennel was the mill’s first superintendent before he purchased control of the company in 1917.
Today, Mennel operates 30 sites in 6 states. This growth has been guided by the vision and leadership of the Mennel family, now in its fifth generation, as well as the hearts and hands of over 600 dedicated employees.
