Continued Action on 17th Street Re-Design
DCCA sent a letter to the Mary Cheh, Chairperson of the DC Council Committee on Transportation and the Environment, to ask that Council exercise its DDOT oversight role regarding the failure of DDOT to issue a new Notice of Intent for the 17th Street Redesign Project, when as noted on the DDOT website, "the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is required to give a written notice of intent to modify traffic and/or parking requirements."

Specifically, a new NOI should have been issued when RRP parking spaces on the west side of 17th Street and on Church Street were converted to paid loading and no parking zones.

Click here to read DCCA's September 30 letter and here to read the log of DCCA action and outreach on the issue.
Also with regard to the 17th redesign, DCCA has responded to DDOT’s Notice of Intent #21-195-PSD, which extends the northbound 17th bike lane from T Street NW to Florida Avenue NW. DCCA has no objections to the specific layout being proposed as it is a standard configuration. However, we do not support the consideration of any extension of the 17th St NW bike lanes at the current time. Given the many issues with the current configuration of 17th Street as a whole, we feel considering an extension now is premature. We encouraged DDOT once again to undertake a more complete public vetting of the 17th Street redesign to ensure a configuration that works for all our residents is implemented.

MLK Library Re-imagined: A Tour in Dance
In celebration of the newly-modernized Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, DC native Alexandra Hutchinson and her ballet partner Derek Brockington, both of the esteemed Dance Theatre of Harlem, choreographed a story of what a magical place a library can be.

Many Duponters may recall Hutchinson, daughter of a former Dupont Village Executive Director, asking for contributions to her "toe shoe fund" over the years. She is now with Dance Theatre of Harlem, but came back to DC several times during pandemic to see new space and create this dance video of the renovated building, produced by MLK Library Friends.
