First Responders Give Life-Saving Aid at Strawberry Fest
The Village recognizes the quick actions of two off-duty firefighter/paramedics and volunteers of the South Lake County Regional Community Emergency Response Team (SLCR CERT) for life-saving efforts in treating a 52-year-old male who suffered a heart attack at Strawberry Fest on Saturday, June 25. Billy Eisner of the Long Grove Fire Protection District (LGFPD) and Tim Strock of the Inverness Fire Protection District were attending the festival with their families when they heard nearby cries for help. Tim was first on the scene and began assessing the patient, who was lying on the ground unconscious. Billy arrived shortly thereafter and the two began performing CPR. The SLCR CERT responders and on-duty LGFPD paramedics arrived minutes later and continued treatment. The patient was transported to an area hospital, where he regained consciousness and is recovering. The Village thanks the incredible efforts of the off-duty firefighter/paramedics and other first responders for their immediate assistance.
Honoring Longtime Community Member ‘Chip’ Ullrich
During its June 28 meeting, the Village Board passed a resolution honoring the life and service of Charles ‘Chip’ Ullrich, who passed away on May 15, 2022. Chip was a longtime resident of Long Grove and owner of the Village Tavern, who served with honor in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps. His legacy includes serving as an advocate for the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association and as an active member of the Lions Club, along with countless deeds that benefited his community and country. A celebration of the Ullrich family's 60-year ownership of the Village Tavern will be taking place in July. At that time, a framed copy of the resolution will be presented once again, expressing the Village's deepest gratitude and condolences to Chip's surviving family and friends, especially his wife, Mary Ann (pictured center).
Checker Road Traffic
Studies Planned
The Village will be testing various traffic calming solutions and calming devices, starting this fall. The proposed devices to be tested include electronic speed signs, a traffic choker and speed tables. Traffic counters will be installed on Checker Road to establish baselines and to measure traffic speeds and volumes at peak times throughout the testing period. These efforts are anticipated to last approximately two to three months.
Reminder About
Door-to-Door Solicitors
Individuals or groups other than religious or political organizations who solicit door-to-door are required to obtain a solicitation permit from the Village. Solicitors can go door-to-door between the hours of 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. They are required to carry the solicitation permit while soliciting, and residents have the right to ask to see the permit. If a solicitor does not have a permit, the resident should notify the Village or the Lake County Sheriff. To opt out of door-to-door solicitations, residents can obtain a ‘No Solicitors’ window cling, available at no charge from the Village. To request a window cling, please email Sherry Shlagman or call 847-634-9440.
Route 53 Corridor Preservation Efforts
The Village Board approved a funding proposal from the not-for-profit Midwest Sustainability Group to continue efforts to protect environmentally sensitive wetlands, groves of oak and hickory trees (our Village's namesake) and wildlife along the former Route 53 corridor. The Midwest Sustainability Group is a member of Green Corridor Coalition, an alliance of concerned citizens and environmental organizations working together to protect open spaces in the corridor. The $10,160 grant will be used to support outreach events, task force engagements and tours, as well as offset other expenses through calendar year 2022.

The Midwest Sustainability Group is seeking volunteers! Residents interested in getting involved can email info@midwestsustainability.org or call 847-986-6900.
