DID YOU KNOW?

February showers bring March flowers? Saturday, March 9 is Flower Bulb Day. A colorful display of more than 80,000 tulips 🌷 will cover Union Square in San Francisco, and you are invited to visit the square and pick your own bunch of tulips from 1 to 4:30 pm. The day before is International Women's Day, so why not bring a beautiful bouquet to a special woman in your life?

Cable car No. 53 took a special Valentine’s Day ride up Nob Hill, including a stop outside the Fairmont Hotel, where the car was officially dedicated to the singer Tony Bennett, who died in July at age 96. He first performed his iconic song, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco, at the Venetian Room in 1961. Muni's ridership has nearly recovered to pre-pandemic levels, with some lines (including the cable cars) faring better than others.

One of San Francisco's most romantic destinations has a new name. Originally named for a 19th-century assemblymember with outspoken antisemitic views, Stow Lake will now be called Blue Heron Lake, after the large and graceful wading birds who nest along its shores. Its boathouse, rowboats, and hiking trails will remain as charming as ever.

Get to Know: Noe Valley

Like the adjacent Castro and Mission, Noe Valley started out as a blue-collar neighborhood in the late 19th century. The neighborhood boomed even further after the 1906 quake, as it was beyond the limits of the fire that spread as far southwest as 20th and Dolores Streets. Hence, Victorian and Edwardian architecture is prominent here. The neighborhood has continued to gentrify over the years, and today is popular with young families.

What Is Unwarranted Space?

When perusing real estate listings, you may come across language referring to some part of the property being “unwarranted.” Unlike feedback and opinions, unwarranted in this context doesn’t mean unsolicited or unwelcome. Unwarranted space in real estate can be a good thing for buyers, with potential benefits — and pitfalls. Sellers, too, may find both upsides and downsides to having unwarranted space in their property.
