Railroad Workers Talk About What is Going on in Rail Today
Over the past few weeks, a number of media outlets have picked up the scent of what is unfolding in the rail industry in the United States. Catalyzed by the uproar at BNSF over the new so-called "Hi Viz" attendance policy, and then further propelled when all rail unions reached bargaining "impasse" in nation contract negotiations with the big freight rail carriers, rail workers' struggles are suddenly on the map.

Rather than shy away, offer "no comment", and leave the corporations' point of view be the only opinion out there, RWU believes that we need to do all in our power as railroad workers to get our side of the story before the general public. The press may not get it perfect, they may publish erroneous information, they may quote us out of context and so forth, but to say nothing is to cede the theatre of public opinion to the rail carriers.
We urge the rail union officials to take every opportunity to get the railroad workers' side of the issue out there. And we urge railroad workers to do the same. A WORD OF CAUTION: Railroad workers must be extremely cautious of speaking to the press. Please ensure that any media outlet you speak to is trustworthy. Do not divulge your name and/or the rail carrier that employs you or the union you are a member of unless you are confident that you will not suffer reprisal at the hands of your employer. In spoken interviews, you may wish to have your voice disguised, as is done in one of the videos below. RWU can assist you.

Please view the videos below. And please share with family, friends, neighbors and most of all, your co-workers. Both news clips were released earlier this week. Not only do we wish to influence public opinion favorably, we hope to inspire our fellow workers to believe in ourselves, to believe in the cause of rail labor, and to believe in our ability to fight back and win!
