Over the past few weeks, a number of media outlets have picked up the scent of what is unfolding in the rail industry in the United States. Catalyzed by the uproar at BNSF over the new so-called "Hi Viz" attendance policy, and then further propelled when all rail unions reached bargaining "impasse" in nation contract negotiations with the big freight rail carriers, rail workers' struggles are suddenly on the map.
Rather than shy away, offer "no comment", and leave the corporations' point of view be the only opinion out there, RWU believes that we need to do all in our power as railroad workers to get our side of the story before the general public. The press may not get it perfect, they may publish erroneous information, they may quote us out of context and so forth, but to say nothing is to cede the theatre of public opinion to the rail carriers.
