Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Deuteronomy 31: 6- 8

6 Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.’

7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: ‘Be strong and bold, for you are the one who will go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their ancestors to give them; and you will put them in possession of it. 8 It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 85:1-7 Lord, you've been kind to your land; you've changed Jacob's circumstances for the better. You've forgiven your people's wrongdoing; you've covered all their sins. You've stopped being furious; you've turned away from your burning anger. You, the God who can save us, restore us! Stop being angry with us! Will you be mad at us forever? Will you prolong your anger from one generation to the next? Won't you bring us back to life again so that your people can rejoice in you? Show us your faithful love, Lord! Show us your salvation!

Nehemiah 6:10-13 Later I went to see Shemaiah, Delaiah's son and Mehetabel's grandson, who was confined to his house, and he said, "Let's meet together in God's house, inside the temple itself. Let's shut the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you; they are coming to kill you tonight!" Then I replied, "Should someone like me run away? Who like me would go into the temple to save his life? I won't go in!" Then I realized that God hadn't sent him at all but that he spoke this prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. He was hired to frighten me to make me sin by acting in this way. Then they could give me a bad name and discredit me.

Revelation 19:9-10 Then the angel said to me, "Write this: Favored are those who are invited to the wedding banquet of the Lamb." He said to me, "These are the true words of God." Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said, "Don't do that! I'm a servant just like you and your brothers and sisters who hold firmly to the witness of Jesus. Worship God! The witness of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

Matthew 17:9-13 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Don't tell anybody about the vision until the Human One is raised from the dead." The disciples asked, "Then why do the legal experts say that Elijah must come first?" Jesus responded, "Elijah does come first and will restore all things. In fact, I tell you that Elijah has already come, and that they didn't know him. But they did to him whatever they wanted. In the same way the Human One is also going to suffer at their hands." Then the disciples realized he was telling them about John the Baptist.

A big thank you to all that participated in our fleece blanket Saturday.

The 25 participants produced 47 blankets that were taken to Crosslines on Monday, by Judie Wolff, for their Christmas store.

Each blanket was paired with a book for a child to snuggle up and read.  It seemed that everyone had a good time and what an assortment of blankets. Not a single duplicate of prints.

Also, thank you to the Early Bird Fellowship group for the great eats and beverages.

HEIFER CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT

The Gift That Keeps Giving

We will be selling Heifer Project animals again this year in the Narthex from November 26 through December 17.

For those people who don’t know how Heifer Projects works, animals are given to people in third world countries, but the neat part of the program is that they are required to pass an offspring on to someone else the next year, so the gift continues to give. Heifer Project also teaches people in third world countries better farming techniques, etc.

You can give an animal in the name of a relative or friend. We have cards that you can give or send to the friend or relative telling them of your gift.

BOOK CLUB

We are meeting in the ANNEX on December 7 at 1pm. Tammy will lead our discussion of The Noel Diary by Richard Evans. Bring a dozen cookies for our cookie exchange!

Our next gathering is January 25. Our book is Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patty Callahan Henry. Nancy Potter Wallace will lead.

All are welcome!
