Graduation Day at St. Gabe’s
These photos from June 1964 depict eighth-grade graduation day at St. Gabriel School on Pittsburgh’s Northside. Linda Hamas Meisner (Mount Assisi Academy Class of 1968) is pictured (at left) with classmates Janice Kirkwood, Debby Senko and Stephanie Karlik. At right, Linda celebrates the occasion with her parents, Alex and Mary Kucan Hamas (Mount Assisi Academy Class of 1941), and Sister Francesca Parana, school principal and eighth-grade teacher. “Thanks to all the Sisters at St. Gabe’s for preparing us for high school and beyond,” Linda says.

A Triumphant Entry
Jesus enters Jerusalem riding
on the back of a lowly donkey.
People spread their cloaks and
palm branches cut from the tree.
From the voices of many following
the shouts of loud hosannas did ring.
“Blessed be the name of the Lord God,”
with loud cries they continued to sing.
