Great advocacy takes a great team

Our voice is being heard! I recently travelled to Washington, DC with a group of NEPPA members as part of the APPA's Legislative Rally. We met with elected officials, aides, and FERC commissioners. I can state unequivocally, as someone with eight years of lobbying experience and over fifteen years in professional politics, that NEPPA has one of the best advocacy efforts going.

for Step Up for Colleen 5K
Here's your chance to participate in the Third Annual Step Up for Colleen 5K, set for Sunday, May 1 in Andover, Mass. The event honors the memory of belove
d teacher Colleen Ritzer, with proceeds benefiting college scholarships for thos
e planning a teaching career.
More than 5,000 participants are expected this year, including walkers and runners of all ages and abilities. The course runs through the characteristically New England streets of Andover and is a "sea of pink," which was Colleen's favorite color. Since its inception, the Colleen E. Ritzer Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $50,000 to 21 deserving students.

Engineering Committee hosts successful kick-off
It has been said that engineers like to solve problems you didn't know you had in ways you can't understand. And judging by the number of topics introduced at the Engineering Committee's recent kick-off roundtable, this group is eager to begin.
At last month's first event, more than 50 participants gathered at the NEPPA Training Center to hear three industry experts speak about coordination of distributed generation, installing new generation, and using drones in the electric industry. A brainstorming session yielded more than 30 potential future topics, including arc flash and fire retardant clothing options, microgrids, NERC compliance, physical site security, battery storage and many more.

Kenneth Rollins promoted to Line Foreman in Middleton, Mass.
Kenneth Rollins has been promoted to Facilities Coordinator (Line Foreman) at Middleton, Mass. Municipal Electric Department. He succeeds Len Ferreira, who retired Feb. 29.
Rollins came to Middleton in June 1990 as a First Class Lineman from the Danvers, Mass. Electric Division. He has been a Working Foreman since 2004.
In his new role he'll handle additional administrative duties along with keeping up with ongoing projects, according to Middleton Electric's General Manager Mark Kelly.
"Kenny has told me that his new position is a lot different, but in a good way," Kelly said. "He does a great job, and is very, very knowledgable about the system. He's a great asset to the light department."

Director of Training is CUSP certified
Director of Training Steve Socoby holds a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) credential, awarded by the Utility Safety and Operations Leadership Network. This means he is a member of a select group of utility safety professionals who have demonstrated broad knowledge, skills and ability in the utility work environment.
Steve holds CUSP's green level certification, the highest available, with a transmission and distribution endorsement. To earn it, he passed two written exams and a committee review of his work experience.
"I was encouraged to pursue the CUSP certification by Sharon Staz (former general manager at Kennebunk, Maine Light and Power)," Steve said. "I'm greatly indebted to her for doing that."

New staff member joins NEPPA
Welcome to Elizabeth Dailey, our new Director of Finance and Administration. Elizabeth began work March 14, and will be responsible for all finance-related tasks, along with human resources.
Elizabeth comes to NEPPA from the New York City area, where she was most recently CFO for the Federal Bar Council. She has also served as Assistant Comptroller for a New York Stock Exchange broker-dealer.
