Take Part in a Boston Marathon Sports Medicine Research Study
You are invited to participate in the sports medicine research study “Energy Availability, Health, and Performance among Boston Marathon 2022 Athletes” survey, available at this link, before Marathon Monday.
Study participation is voluntary, and involves a confidential, brief (15-minute) survey to help the sports medicine community better understand the health issues facing endurance athletes. Dr. Kristin Whitney, Dr. Kate Ackerman, and the research team at the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital (a Harvard Medical School academic hospital) are leading this research initiative with the goal of better supporting health and performance in the marathoner community. This survey asks questions about dietary habits, basic health, injury history, training routines, and running goals. For those who consent to participate, confidential survey responses will be compared with athlete health and performance results, with the aim of understanding how pre-race factors may affect marathon outcomes. All information will be fully confidential, de-identified, and used for research purposes only.
