A FAB YEAR IN REVIEW
Though our world was turned upside down during the past 12 months we all must CELEBRATE what FAB has accomplished during that time. Our eight committees have worked diligently meeting via Zoom and adapting to a new normal while remaining focused on our goals to continue to lead in the support of the arts.
Here are some of the 2020 FAB highlights.
- FAB continues to have an increasing financial impact on the arts organizations in Broward. For this year, I am proud to announce the grant pool for 2022 is $278,800, with total giving over the past 17 years now exceeding $3.8 million.
- The Visionary Fund Campaign raised over $73,000 to support FAB operations and an additional $42,000 for the grant pool, which exceeded 2020's goal.
- Expanded Communication efforts by adding a Virtual 8 part pop up series, FAB Presents which tackles important topics like COVID-19 and the Arts, Public Art in Fort Lauderdale and more. The frequency of the FAB Scene was increased to monthly editions keeping our members and friends in touch with FAB grantee, member and community news.
The Annual meeting was broadcast live on March 23, 2021. A complete review is included along with guest speakers and entertainment from Gold Coast Jazz. Symphony of the Americas has appointed a new Executive Director, Steven P. Haines.... |
Symphony of the Americas recently announced the appointment of Steven Haines as its new Executive Director. Haines will work closely with Music Director Pablo Mielgo – who was appointed last year, and with the board of directors and the entire community, to continue Symphony of the Americas’ impact on the region and to bring music back to the community. “I know Steven will lead Symphony of the Americas to new heights,” said Robert M. Roselli, President of the Board of Directors. “One of our top priorities is to reposition the Symphony for a full return to performing while developing a strategy for significant growth. As One of Haines’ first initiatives to return The Symphony to live performances this spring at the Broward Center takes shape, The Backlot Live (entertainment outdoors) series announces dates starting April 17. This is a FAB funded program.

CHANGING LANDSCAPES - ART SERVE
PINAR ISIK SINKA

Pınar Işık Sinka was born in Izmir, Turkey. She is a multidisciplinary artist who works in the field of Fine Arts and Performance Art in an Avant-Garde base and founder of PI Art Butoh Dance Company. Sinka is a visual artist, curator, Butoh dancer, choreographer. “My movements have a sense of connection and communication with the earth. Speaking to nature with emotion and passion can unlock an awareness of the environment.”
Environmental art is portrayed through a wide range of artistic practices. Ecologically and socially motivated works, such as “Green Art,” have been informed by climate crisis awareness, the protection and conservation of the environment, and the evolution of the ecological art movement. Island City Stage
Don’t miss FAB grantee Island City Stage's production of "The Niceties" by Eleanor Burgess. The office of a white, liberal, lesbian history professor at an elite ivy league university explodes with conflict when a black student arrives to discuss the thesis of her essay. Directed by Michael Leeds.

New River Fine Art has long been considered one of Fort Lauderdale’s premier fine art galleries. Located on Las Olas Boulevard for 23 years, the gallery has represented 20th Century Masters, Pop, Post War and Contemporary Masters as well as some of today’s most in demand emerging artists. As founder and driving force behind the gallery, Lisa Burgess has also brought museum quality exhibitions to the area.
Lisa’s belief in developing relationships and taking a sincere interest in her clients’ needs has served her well through the years, as her business has grown to encompass both the retail gallery and a private art advisory, Burgess Modern + Contemporary that specializes in private acquisitions, publishing and art projects. She is recognized as an industry leader both locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally for expertise within the field. In 2020, Lisa was appointed to the Florida Council on Arts & Culture, and she is a new member of Funding Arts Broward.

We encourage members to be fully involved in the grant process and/or in any of the other seven committees. FAB is a fun and active group fully engaged in the arts community. Your work will be rewarded with quality programs and exhibits throughout Broward County in all areas of the art world – theater, film, dance, music, opera, and museum exhibits.
