Submit an Abstract to Present at ASPIREthe International Annual Meeting of HFES

Don't miss your chance to submit an abstract for ASPIRE—the International Annual Meeting of the HFES. The call for abstracts closes soon.

Taking place September 9-13, 2024, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix, ASPIRE provides an unparalleled opportunity to share your latest work and network with fellow professionals in the field of HF/E.

Submit an abstract by Wednesday, February 21 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time for the opportunity to establish yourself as a leader in the discipline of HF/E by presenting your work to an international audience. Don't forget to view what's new with the 2024 submission process before submitting.

ASPIRE attendees will participate in concurrent sessions, interactive posters, demonstrations, and much more over four days. The meeting will also feature the latest research and practical solutions across a spectrum of industries and focus areas. We look forward to seeing you in Phoenix this September!

Serve as an ASPIRE Reviewer

HFES is currently looking for individuals interested in serving as reviewers for ASPIRE! If you are interested in reviewing submissions, please submit your contact information and areas of interest at the link below.

Reviewer assignments will be sent in early March. This year, reviewers will be asked to review a brief submission instead of a full paper for their assigned submissions. Reviews are due in mid-April. Becoming a reviewer is a great way to get involved in HFES—students are strongly encouraged to apply!

Expand Your HFES International Symposium Experience

The 2024 International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care convenes March 24-27 at the Hilton Chicago Hotel in Chicago and will feature more than 45 sessions and 160 posters in the program lineup.

For those looking to elevate their learning even further on March 24, there are five workshops as well as the first-ever HFES Healthcare Robotics Summit available (separate registration fees apply).

Full-Day Healthcare Robotics Summit

The Healthcare Robotics Summit, sponsored by Intuitive, aims to stimulate much needed dialogue towards expanding the opportunities and reducing the risks of healthcare robotics of all forms (e.g., surgical, modular, rehabilitation, social) through the careful consideration of human factors. The full program is now available.

This is a must-attend event for any person or company involved in healthcare robotics and related technologies.

Apply for Seed Grants Targeting the Intersections of HF/E and Anti-Racism/Anti-Bias

Since 2020, HFES has supported a seed grant program in support of research and programming that investigates and addresses the intersections of human factors/ergonomics and anti-racism/anti-bias. This grant program aims to stimulate and support projects and research intended to improve our understanding of and reduce/eliminate racism and bias in the systems, environments, products and tools with which humans interact.

While this program initially focused on bias related to race and ethnicity, this program has been expanded to include bias related to the characteristics identified by the HFES Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (e.g., race, age, belief system, cognitive style, disability status, gender identity, language, socioeconomic status) and intersectionality of those characteristics that make individuals unique.

Learn more about the application process and how each proposal will be evaluated.

Proposals are due by 6 p.m. ET on March 1, 2024.

Lessons Learned From COVID-19 From the Human Factors and Ergonomics Perspectives

This proposed special issue invites submissions of original theoretical and empirical works related to the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of all HF/E domains.

All submissions must explicitly demonstrate knowledge that yield design principles; enhance training, selection and communication; and ultimately improve human-system interfaces and sociotechnical systems that lead to safer and more effective outcomes.
