March 2022

Dear Classmate,

It’s no joke that the news headlines are heavy right now and have been for some time.

But just as hopelessness settles in, we turn pages in the calendar and look to a new season. And oh! The spring season is unlike any other. With it, spring brings an eternal optimism and a promise that the future will be full of beauty and potential.

In Decorah, the snow trillium, Dutchman’s breeches, and other spring wildflowers will soon peek out of the ground and provide that heavy dose of hope we all need right now. Students on Luther’s campus will dig deep into their studies. Prospective students will visit Decorah and consider our beloved alma mater as the platform for their future.

You are one of Luther’s closest friends and a tireless champion. Will you join me in planting seeds of hope for more students and prospective students? Here are a few ideas for how you might help the Luther community during this spring season:
Peruse the most recent Luther Magazine and stay tuned for the next issue.
Reach out to a classmate with a note of encouragement.
Keep Luther top of mind (and keep it affordable!) for prospective students. Make a referral through the Alumni Ambassador Program and learn about the Iowa Impact Award.
Join me in setting up a monthly gift to provide reliable, sustaining support at luther.edu/giving. It's easy and can fit into any budget!
Schedule a weekend visit to campus and see the impact of your financial support and your advocacy!
Finally, remember that spring is a season of growth and that you are part of this beloved and growing Luther community. For that reason alone, I am hopeful.

Gratefully,
Clara Bergan
