The 2021 Nurse Scholar program includes 20 hours of Continuing Nursing Education accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). It is available to all nurses carrying an active unencumbered license (LPN and RN at all levels). April Health Spotlight: Parkinson Awareness
Dr. James Parkinson identified Parkinson disease in 1817. A Dutch horticulturalist (who had Parkinson disease) developed a red and white tulip and named it after Dr. Parkinson. Today, the red tulip is the official Parkinson symbol.

AgriSafe is partnering with Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health (use UMASH if space is an issue) to host a panel webinar Aging and Parkinson Disease in Agriculture on April 13th at 12pm CT. Parkinson disease is one of the most common movement disorders, with approximately 60,000 Americans diagnosed every year. The average age at diagnosis is 60, with males affected 1.5 times more than females. Parkinson symptoms can have a profound impact on agricultural work affecting productivity and safety. The Parkinson Foundation recognizes rural areas have disparities for people and families living with Parkinson’s disease. Some of these challenges are access to movement disorder specialists, education and supportive services.

This webinar will outline aging and Parkinson’s on agricultural work with suggestions for improving safety, living well and maximizing function. If you work in agricultural safety, with individuals or families living with Parkinson’s in rural communities or in healthcare, this webinar is for you. We will offer free Continuing Education credits through joint providers with the University of Minnesota School of Public Health for a range of occupational professionals and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette ANCC approved for nursing.

Chemical & Pesticide Safety on the Farm
Spring is here, at least that is what the calendar is telling us! This is a good time for a critical inspection on property, shop, and home areas, making sure chemicals are properly labeled and out of reach for our kids. It is important to include grandparents in this effort as children love to explore farm operations they visit. Young children are innately curious and are attracted to cans, bottles, and containers of all sizes (especially if there are colored granules or liquids that grab their attention). Rural healthcare providers and educators are tasked with keeping pesticide and chemical safety awareness reminders on the forefront! Check out the below resources for more information on Chemical and Pesticide safety!
