Architecturally Speaking |
Architectural trends tend to be of the "style" variety, predicting less of what's evolving in the industry and more of what's trending at the moment. Perhaps a victim of its own making, the architectural practice has largely operated the same way for thousands of years. Technology, of course, has managed to push the practice of architectural production from hand-produced blueprints to digital documents. READ MORE

Featured Article - Diversity in Architecture - Allen Rossignol, AIA
Jonathan Moody's presentation at the 2020 AIA Rochester Annual Meeting inspired me to think about diversity within our profession at our local level. To make a difference, we need to have a coordinated corporate-level initiative from our A/E/C community and maybe even beyond just A/E/C. How do we, as a Rochester community, make a difference? AIAS Chapter
Throughout the 2020-21 school year, the AIAS chapter at SUNY Alfred State is facing the new challenges presented by the pandemic through virtual meetings and is continuing to grow a community of ambitious architecture students. Club events have allowed for new connections and the continued sharing of ideas between students in both the Architecture and Interior Design departments. The information provided at these events focuses on relevant and useful skills, presented through interactive workshops led by Alfred State students. These events have covered topics such as the creation of presentation graphics, portfolio development, and the architectural licensure process. In addition, there have been interactive discussions regarding the design of the Alfred State campus and a Q&A event featuring recent graduates in the architectural field. Several additional workshops and meetings based on UAS (drone) operations, coffee-and-crits, and presentation board design are planned to close out the semester.

AIA COTE Knowledge Community
Getting to net zero
In 2007, the AIA helped set the Federal 2030 Net Zero Energy Goals. Today, we continue to push for ways to achieve and surpass them.
This includes preserving Section 433 of the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which cost-effectively improves energy performance for federal buildings, and leading the fight to protect energy efficiency incentives like the 179D tax deduction. On the state and local levels, we are guiding governments and communities toward effective green building incentives. READ MORE
