COVID-19 Update: Certain Businesses Can Expand Capacity This Week
On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Phase 3 plan to "Open Texas" has now begun, which expands the operating capacity of businesses. Those businesses operating at 25% capacity, can now expand to 50% with certain exceptions. Outdoor events are excluded from the limits, except for professional/collegiate sports, swimming pools, water parks, museums, libraries, zoos, aquariums, natural caverns, rodeos and equestrian events. There is no reduced occupancy outlined for religious services, child care services, recreational adult /youth sporting programs or youth camps. Additionally, the reduced capacity does not apply to personal care and beauty services like hair salons and barbershops given that the proper social distancing guidelines are followed. On June 12, restaurants will be able to expand occupancy to 75%.

The local Lakeway Order was also amended earlier this week to fall in line with Governor Abbott's recent Orders. The updated local Order allows for additional city facilities to open this week, along with giving guidance for committees. The Activity Center is now open with a limited capacity, along with the Swim Center. See link below for all of the current Orders in place, along with some other helpful links. Here is the latest on the numbers. Austin-Travis County is reporting that there have been 3,562 positive COVID-19 cases to date in Travis County. That number is up by 438 compared to the same time last week, 412 the week before that and 367 the week before that one. There have been 52 positive COVID-19 cases to date in the three zip codes associated with Lakeway (78734, 78738 and 78669), which is unchanged from the same time last week. Please continue to wash your hands regularly, practice social distancing, and while it's not mandatory to wear face coverings, it's still strongly encouraged in public. The Governor's Order also still states there should be no more than 10 people in a group, and proper 6-feet social distancing guidelines should be maintained between groups. Thank you for helping keep our community protected during this difficult and unusual time.

Swim Center Fully Opening With Reduced Capacity
The Swim Center will fully open Monday with limited capacity. No more than 150 individuals at one time will be able to enter the facility as part of the Governor's direction to maintain a reduced capacity in public pools. Additional protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of those who visit the pools, including enhanced cleaning protocols, consistent pool chemical checks, and limiting access to pool accessories. If you visit, please bring your own swim equipment. Goggles, fins, shareable life vests, kickboards and swim buoys will not be available for checkout. Additionally, changing areas will remain closed, so be sure to have your swimsuit already on when you arrive. Public restrooms will be available inside the facility and outside near the basketball court. Click here to view the schedule and pool guidelines.
RM 620 Widening Project Up For Deferral: How You Can Offer Input
The RM 620 widening project slated to begin in the next few years has been placed on a list with several other projects in our 5-county area (including Travis County) to be deferred to help fund improvements to IH-35. The widening project was expected to start in late 2022 by widening RM 620 from a four-lane road to six-lanes along the corridor from SH 71 through Lakeway to Oak Grove Boulevard, to improve safety and help relieve congestion for residents and those driving through the community. CAMPO will have its Transportation Policy Board Meeting next Tuesday evening, where the item is up for discussion and action.
