The weather is warm today, but when we have another dip with freezing temperatures, you might use the opportunity to create an ice lantern.
Instructions:
-
Freeze water in a large yogurt container (or similar). Fill it 3/4 full of water.
- Put the container outside overnight.
- If it is frozen in the morning, remove the ice carefully from the container and turn it upside down. What was at the top of the container should be a thick layer of ice, the bottom should be a thin layer and in the middle should still be liquid.

Break the thin ice layer carefully and let the water flow out. What remains is a a hollow ice block shaped like a lantern.
- Place a tea light insight and light it.
Variations:
- Do the same with a water balloon as the container and then break it when the outside layer is frozen.
- Use icicles or other ice formations to create a lantern.

Strategic Planning Committee Focus Groups |
|
The Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) invites current parents to share and discuss their vision for the future of our school by participating in a focus group. Daytime and evening meeting times will be available. Each focus group will meet once, with additional optional conversations possible further down the road.
Interested parents should contact SPC Co-Chair Jennie Rabinowitz ( jr.rabinowitz@gmail.com). Parent feedback will also be solicited via survey or similar means later this year. |

Boo-Boo Pup has continued be a joyful connection for the first graders, in person and over Zoom. The first graders show their thanks and affection for the little pup by making gifts and building various shelters to ensure that they have a cozy place to live and LOTS of company.

How to Submit a Listing
We welcome submissions of community news, items for sale, want ads, etc. Please keep notices to 500 characters or less. Listings will likely be edited. Please submit listings by COB Tuesdays with the subject "Bulletin Submission." If you are sending images, a link to an online image is preferred. Bulletin Board notices generally run for 3 weeks - if space allows - unless other arrangements have been made. There is no charge for listings.

Needle Felted Toadstool Tutorial

Due to the pandemic, I make instructional video tutorials to go with my online classes. Usually I edit them to speed through the chatty parts, to keep them short. This video is unedited and reminds me of counting sheep, or a bit like an homage to Bob Ross, though I am certainly no Bob Ross.

Please join the AU Anti-Racist Research and Policy Center, the AU Department of Critical Race, Gender & Culture Studies (CRGC), and the AU Women’s Initiative (WI) in welcoming a series of speakers to our virtual campus in Spring 2021. This Series addresses the question of human freedom from the perspective of the "the damned of the earth," those on the underside of history. Each speaker, engaged in radical intervention across different emancipatory, anti-colonial struggles, will consider how communities are thinking about and forging alternative futures. Virtual Student Well-Being Symposium, February 25 at 1pm

Tiziana (now in Italy) let us know that she and her husband are involved with the creation of a new organization focused on student well-being. Mindhamok uses digital learning, webinars, and podcasts working with a network of therapists (psychiatrists, osteopaths, homeopaths, coaches etc). They have a 24/7 helpline, crisis management, and more.
Be part of the Mindhamok virtual student symposium! Join their expert panel members as they share their perspectives on “the academic year that wasn’t supposed to happen” as well as offering a unique chance to gain new tips on how to improve your well-being as you study during the pandemic. Panel members will also be on hand to listen and respond to questions, thoughts and concerns.
