Knightly News
April 12, 2021
Dear Parents:

We had a great "Read Across America" week and the dress up days were a nice break for us all. Our Knights love to read! We are looking forward to the Read-A-Thon that not only makes book money for us, but also encourages our students to read even more. Thank you Becca Crews and Kelli Gerard for putting together such a special week for our Knights!

We have wrapped up quarter 3 and Skills Mastery Reports and report cards will be sent home this week. We are also entering testing season as the end of the year creeps up on us. For more information on testing, scroll to the end of the newsletter. Scores on upcoming tests will be mailed home at the end of the year.

The Knight and Day Coffee Company is back at work and serving teachers on Fridays. Next week, we will be open for secondary students on Friday in the Student Center.

Our sports teams are hard at work, playing baseball, softball, and running track. The coaches have a lot on their plates keeping up with our PE program and after school program. We're very proud of how both our soccer teams finished their seasons! They deserve an extra pat on the back!

As always, our focus is on our students, and as long as they are happy and learning, we are succeeding. Thank for you for support. None of this has been easy, but we are not only surviving; we are thriving!

Proud to be a Knight,
Marsha Cawthon
Principal
Our girls' soccer team won the regional championship, and our boys' soccer team won 2nd place in the region!
Read Across America 2021
We always love the excitement for literacy that Read Across America Week brings! Each year Mrs. Crews and Mrs. Gerard work together to make the week extra special for our students. From mystery readers, to dress up days and daily lessons, there's no doubt that our students gained insight to the many doors that reading can open.
The Showcase
Speech and Debate
We are so proud of our high school speech and debate students and are celebrating a great season! They performed admirably this year despite the hurdles that competing online presented. Thank you for representing our school so well!

Now that our district tournament is over, we will turn our attention to preparing for the 2021-22 season so that we are ready to begin competing in August. We are hopeful that we will get to return to in-person tournaments. (Although, the students are going to miss getting to wear joggers instead of dress pants!) We can't wait to see what next year brings!
Congratulations on a great season!

Our middle school speech and debate students have been hard at work and enjoying their new room with a stage! Students proposed bills to the "Trivium Senate" and held a formal classroom debate on the proposals. They are now researching for their argument speeches. At Trivium, we are teaching students the importance of respectful conversations, which we can all agree is so important!
Curriculum Corner
Field trips are one of things that we miss the most this year, and we can't wait to get back to providing students with as many hands on experiences as possible. Until then, our teachers have made a concerted effort to find opportunities to bring learning to life for students. This week fourth grade students got to participate in a webinar covering the history of the Texas Rangers including their roles, weapons, and even the take down of Bonnie and Clyde! Students had the opportunity to ask questions and then reflect on their learning by writing about how the Texas Rangers kept Texas safe.
Staff Spotlight
Mr. Brandon Flemister
We're so excited for you to get to know Mr. Brandon Flemister a little more! He is completing his 2nd year at Trivium Academy. Mr. Flemister has taught 6th and 8th grade Humanities at Trivium and enjoys coaching multiple teams as well. He's certainly a favorite among students based on the positive relationships he builds. We're all so lucky to have him as a part of the Trivium family.
"My passion for teaching and coaching began while I was a child growing up, who enjoyed excelling in the classroom and on the sports fields. I was that student who always looked forward to the teacher leaving the classroom and letting me be the student who played the role of teacher in their stead, something tells me my classmates did not enjoy it as much as I did. After graduating college, I spent the first few years of my professional career in the corporate arena as a salesman. While this career choice had its perks, I knew in my heart that it was not my forever situation. I often thought about how could I make a difference in the community and remembered the teachers and coaches who were so important in my development growing up. So, I took the necessary steps to become a certified classroom teacher. After working in a few “big” districts, I ended up meeting our wonderful administration here at Trivium, and the rest is what they call history. I feel blessed to be able to work with young people in the classroom and coaching sports. Go Knights!"

Trivium's Read-A-Thon!
Did you hear? As part of our Read Across America Celebration we are holding a Read-a-thon to raise money to purchase new books for the library. Some of the books that we are looking to purchase include: new young adult fiction books, new non-fiction books for our elementary science collection including books about space, and new books from series that have been published for series we already own.
If you have not already done so, please click on this link to activate your reader’s personal page: Trivium Read-A-Thon!

You will need your child's class code to activate his or her account. Here is a link to all the class codes:  Class Codes

Having trouble? Watch this step-by-step tutorial video:  Read-a-thon Video

It only takes a few minutes to sign up, so please activate your child's page even if you are unable to donate so that the minutes they are reading count towards our school minutes. We are logging minutes read at school, and you can log minutes read at home! So far, our students have read 24,053 minutes! How awesome is that!?
Thanks so much and please let me know if you have any questions!
