District News
Athletics Facilities Update
The Bexley Board of Education approved a resolution for the District to enter into negotiations with the Jewish Community Center on the use of its athletic fields, as well as to start the process for designing and planning the development of versatile space to accommodate baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and tennis.

The District would improve upon the JCC's property, which they would continue to own and manage, but we would have rights to usage and time. It would positively impact the well-being of our students by creating additional practice and game spaces, ultimately reducing late nights for our student-athletes. Financially, it allows us to develop an athletic facility without having to purchase scarce and expensive land within and near our community.

We understand and recognize the JCC would use these fields for their own programming. BCSD and the JCC are confident it will be easy to come to terms with the details related to usage times. We are very grateful for this opportunity and relationship. We will keep you updated as more information is available.
New Football Coach Hired
Bexley City Schools selected Mike Kerr to be Bexley High School’s head coach of the varsity football team. The Bexley Schools Board of Education approved Kerr’s contract during its January 11 meeting.

“I’m very honored to receive the trust of the Bexley City School District to become the next varsity football head coach,” said Mike Kerr. “The Bexley Football Program is marked by a culture built on selflessness, effort, toughness, and competitiveness. We will generate success on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Kerr comes to Bexley High School Football from Mount Vernon High School, where he coached football from 2016 to 2021. While at Mount Vernon, Kerr led the football program to back-to-back winning seasons in 2019 and 2020 for the first time since 2003. MVHS also experienced increased participation numbers and community involvement during his coaching tenure. Kerr has been a part of the coaching staff of several successful football programs throughout central Ohio since 1999.

Summer School Suggestions
We are in the early stages of developing our summer schooling options. Use this link to tell us about summer school enrichment experiences you'd like for our students.
BCS Career Shadowing
In addition to the important learning our students do in school, the district is also committed to providing opportunities for them to learn about the world beyond school. To that end, we will be providing time for our high school students to engage in career shadowing experiences on Wednesday, March 2.

If you are able to host a group of students at your work, we would love to add you to the list of possible shadowing sites. All you need to do is complete this form. Steve Shapiro, Leader of Experiential Learning and Community Engagement, will reach out to work out the details.

We recognize the uncertainties posed by the recent Omicron outbreak. If your ability to host students on March 2nd is contingent upon the COVID status at that time, please go ahead and complete the form and we'll be flexible if circumstances force a change of plans.
