GVBL WINTER REC LEAGUE PLAYOFFS

March Madness is here and it’s still February! GVBL double elimination playoffs have begun and there has been a ton of excitement and it’s only the 1st round!

The Spurs and Warriors moved ahead in the Boys 7th/8th division winner’s bracket. The #8 seed Lakers put a scare into the #1 seed, but the Warriors pulled it out in the end. There is a key match-up this Wednesday when the Blazers meet the Thunder. During the season these two team battled down to the wire, as the Blazers pulled out a 2 point victory.

The Girls 5th/6th division’s opening play-in game was a nail biter with the Fever beating the Dream by just 2 points. However the Sky continued to dominate the division dropping the Fever into the loser bracket 2 days later. Friday night also saw another tight game as the Mystics outlasted the Liberty 28-26.

In the Girls 3rd/4th division the opening round brought us two upsets to start the playoffs. Friday night the #5 seed Vols got by the #4 seed Tigers. In the second game of the evening the #6 seed Wildcats flipped it on the #3 seed Razorbacks 26-17 in a defensive battle.

The Boys 5th/6th saw their first playoff action Friday night with the Raptors besting the Pistons 35-29. This week’s action has the Cavs and the Heat squaring off tonight and the Bucks and the Knicks later this week.

Also seeing their first playoff action the Boys 3rd/4th division and with that we saw the biggest upset thus far in the GVBL tourney. In a double OT thriller the #8 seed Buckeyes out battled the #1 seed Hawkeyes 45-42. Down 8 with about 4 minutes remaining in regulation the Hawkeyes, behind some clutch shooting by Luke Jacobs tied it up. The game went back and forth throughout the overtime periods by Cooper Willey sealed the win with a key foul shot at the end.

GVCO Project Update
If you have passed by the new GVCO Community Center site on Bacton Hill Rd, you have begun to see the transformation of the property.

We built a storage shed, began fencing in the property and opened the practice field in the back of the site. Our GVFL football and GV Cheer groups both held programming at the site this fall.

We have also held a number of community and fundraising events throughout the fall. And you may have seen a good bit of equipment being relocated as we begin to mobilize for future site work at the facility.
