FUN FACTS
What is one of your funniest career memories?
We started with student programmers who were able to build a custom server for the Portal. When we were able to hire a full-time professional web developer, we went looking for the server and found it in a closet looking a bit Frankenstein-like and with a cardboard tube connecting the fan housing thru the computer case (glad the fire marshal didn’t find that first). But that server never failed.
What are some of your proudest achievements with the Portal? I credit all of our achievements to the numerous talented and dedicated individuals who have worked on and contributed to the Portal. I believe some of the most important have been:
- Figuring out the new-fangled world-wide web
- Partnering with Utah 2-1-1
- Receiving funding from the National Library of Medicine that enabled our first major redesign
- Sustained partnership with the Utah Bureau of CSHCN
- Partnering with Utah and Idaho Medicaid programs on the CHIPRA Quality Demonstrations grant
- Ongoing partnerships with New Mexico, Montana, Nevada, and Rhode Island
- Gaining support of the Department of Pediatrics to leverage the Portal to support faculty development
What is on your retirement “bucket list”?
- Surviving the pandemic and staying healthy as long as I can
- Chilling
- Figuring out what I want to do with more time
- As many hiking and/or biking trips as we can fit in
- Maybe getting a camper van to get us to cool places to hike/bike
