USHJA Outreach Member Spotlight
|
|
Maia Wijffels, of Northville, Michigan, was Champion in the 2020 USHJA Equitation 18" or Crossrail Outreach section.
What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach Program in 2020?
It was nice to start in a smaller ring with beginners, and I learned a lot. But by the time I did my last show, I couldn't wait to get into the big ring!
How did you get involved in the sport?
My father, who is Dutch, grew up on a farm and has always been riding horses. When I was 4, I rode a pony during a vacation with my grandparents in the Netherlands and I loved it! After my parents decided to stay in the US, they bought a small ranch themselves and now we have three horses: Gus, Sugar and Ginger, and we ride as a family.
What's your favorite riding memory?
The first time I jumped 2.3 feet. It felt like flying!
What are your riding goals for this year?
Jumping 2-foot at the shows and getting a champion ribbon.

USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight: Millennium Farm
|
|
Tell us a little about your program and who you serve.
We teach riders for hunter, jumper and equitation beginning at age 5. We have super safe ponies and horses! Our facility also hosts several shows on multiple circuits which is an inexpensive way to begin showing.
What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
The advertising and promotional aspects of being affiliated with USHJA.
Tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best horse around.
Snickers is the barn favorite for beginner walk trot lessons up to 2' courses. His flat back and smooth canter makes him easy to learn on.
