ISSUE NO. 251 / May 5, 2021
’tis May, the merry month of May, when April’s showers (and there were certainly many!) bring the promise of May flowers springing forth. Thinking back to a very different time in the year just past… as last May was a scary, confused and dark time with a growing fear of the pandemic. Those who could manage to leave the cities, came here to shelter from the storm in New Hampshire.  But the sun ultimately rose and we look back in relief as we witness so much improvement with all the hope and promise of more productive and connected days soon (we hope) to return. Back into the light and warmth… never more welcome! Onward!
Featuring Jon Batiste, 2021 Oscar winner for best musical score for “SOUL” a Disney animation.
A duet with Itzak Perlman marking the violinist’s 60th anniversary since first appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Celebrating “A Wonderful World” as performed at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra… especially meaningful now.
May 7th.

Has the Corona-virus (COVID-19) changed your life? The Sunapee Historical Society is collecting memorabilia—photos, items, journals, etc—to help document our year of pandemic living for future generations. We’re thinking of things—or photos of things--like the photo-collage of the graduating seniors that hung on the gym last June or the road sign asking out-of-staters to quarantine or the rocks with messages of hope that were sprinkled around town as well as more personal thoughts. Was the year a total disaster for you? Or did you find a silver lining or two? How did your life change? Items can be delivered to Sunapee Archives (542 Route 11) on Mondays, 1-4, or sent by email to sunapeehistory@gmail.com or mailed to PO Box 501, Sunapee, NH 03782. Thank you!

Wednesday, May 19th presentation

The Beauty and the Sorrow: Our Personal Journey of South Africa with AIL members and study leaders, Beverly Marshall and Steve Solomon
During the winter of 2020, Beverly Marshall and Steve Solomon traveled to South Africa, where they spent five weeks in their rented home near Cape Town and visited various destinations around the country. With the idea of eventually presenting a Lunch & Learn event, they each took photos and created a narrative of their observations to share with the AIL community. Join them for a journey of the beauty and the sorrow that is South Africa.

This presentation will run from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a brief Q&A. Lunch & Learn ends promptly at 1:15 p.m. Admission is free and open to all! Learn more.
