Please note: An Edgartown Board of Health Mask Advisory was voted into effect on 5/18/22. In accordance with the most recent CDC guidance and the fact that Dukes County is currently classified as high risk for COVID transmission, the Edgartown Board of Health strongly advises that individuals wear masks when indoors or in enclosed spaces serving the public, or when unable to maintain social distance, regardless of vaccination status.

Adult Programs
[In Person] Movement for Wellness, with Tessa Permar
Mondays (no program on 7/4)

Tessa Permar has taught movement for over 15 years and draws from traditions of yoga, tai chi, Pilates, modern dance, acrobatics, Capoeira, and voice work. Participants will be led through a series of gentle exercises to release tension and connect to each individual’s personal range of motion and sense of well-being. This workshop encourages exploration of movement, gentle strength-building, and connection to music. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you. The library will have a limited number of mats available for use. All body types, abilities, and levels are welcome.

Registration is requested.

Classes will be on July 11, 18, and 25.

[In Person] Vinyasa Power Yoga, with Colleen Macsuga (all levels)

Colleen Macsuga leads a Vinyasa class that is therapeutic, creative, and powerful. Vinyasa (a practice designed to help you heal while keeping you in peak physical shape) incorporates elements of strength building, making it a dynamic experience. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you. The library will have a limited number of mats available for use. All levels are welcome; each pose is guided from the foundation to the full expression.

[In Person] Film Screening: Sound of Metal (USA, 2019)

Ruben (Riz Ahmed) is the drummer in a punk-metal duo with his girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke). When Ruben begins to intermittently lose his hearing, his musical life seems over. At Lou’s insistence, Ruben reluctantly enters a retreat for the deaf, and struggles with giving up his true passion. Director and co-writer Darius Marder lays forth important questions about identity and the barricades ableism has created.

Whether you're a fan of this staple of Korean cuisine, a fan of pickling and fermentation, or you just want to try something new, join us for this workshop led by Reference and Technology Librarian Rizwan Malik. He'll guide you through a non-traditional method that produces a kimchi that balances spice and umami to create a beautifully potent and unique flavor.

Enjoy live music on the library lawn! Bring a blanket and make it a picnic, or just come for the show. There's a different band weekly, and all shows are free and family friendly.

July 12 - The Jaywalkers: Come see roots and rock covers performed with a twist as Barbara Puciul, Jessie Leaman, and Don Groover kick off our music summer series.

July 19 - Joel Harrison: Relax with jazz guitarist, composer, singer, song writer, and man of many musical talents, Joel Harrison.

July 26 - Rose Guerin & Friends: Enjoy one of the Island's most prolific and captivating voices.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to gut and fillet a fish? Sign up for this monthly workshop where you will learn about all aspects of Island seafood, from preparation to the ecological importance of buying local. You'll leave with not only a filet for dinner, but also the knowledge of how to process your next catch. This month we will learn how to filet and scale black sea bass, a highly sought-after fish for its delicious, meaty fillets.

Naomi Goldberg Haas and The Yard

Enjoy moving with full expression and purpose in a class that integrates the thinking body with the emotional body. Emphasis will be on correct alignment, articulation, and connected movement. [In Person] Author Talk: Noah's Rejects by Rob Kagan

In this very personal memoir that takes place on the tiny island of Chappaquiddick, things are not always as they appear. It looks like paradise, it feels like paradise…it should be paradise. But for Rob Kagan, a summer-home caretaker, it’s a struggle to live amongst so much beauty while surviving so much dysfunction. Rob will be reading colorful stories from his new memoir, followed by Q&A and a book signing.

Celebrate Disability Pride Month with food, music, and dancing. Chef Look and McCaull Reid will be cooking up a delicious dinner, and DJ Smooth B is working the turntables with hits from the past and present to get our bodies grooving. [Online] Chef Look Cooks: Fresh Ground Burgers with Grilled Fries and Veggies

This month Chris will be using a specialty tool that could be your next kitchen purchase: he's exploring the world of meat grinders, and will try his hand at making hamburger meat from the most unexpected of ingredients. He’ll talk fat to meat ratio, grind size, and will go over the concepts used in making good sausage. He'll also grind shiitake mushrooms into a burger to satisfy those who prefer a vegetarian option.

The pandemic has had a significant impact on the college admissions process. When many colleges went SAT/ACT-optional, the floodgates opened and upended the status quo. If you've got questions, Liz Benedict, founder of Don't Sweat the Essay, has the answers. Join her for a talk and Q&A about how to handle what's changed in the world of college applications post-Covid. Liz will also discuss how students can prepare for applying to college.

Summer Reading Program
Visit the library to sign up for the Summer Reading Program and receive an Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program welcome bag and reading log. Keep track of the books you read (or have read to you) and bring your completed log back to the library to receive a stamp. Collect stamps to earn prizes!

Kids of all ages are welcome to drop in and explore our under-the-sea mural to learn about the different sea creatures. “Adopt” a stuffed sea creature to take home (while supplies last). For each animal adopted, the Friends of the Edgartown Library will make a donation to the Ocean Conservancy.

Jump into adventure with the library's drop-in teen D&D program. Explore mysterious parts of a wide open world, become a hero, and protect your peace by using all of your considerable skills and weaponry. A free DnD Beyond account is helpful, but not required. This program is drop-in, and signup is not necessary.

Tech Time at the Anchors

Do you have questions about using your laptop, smartphone, iPad, or other devices? The Edgartown Library is partnering with the Edgartown Council on Aging to provide tech time sessions every month at The Anchors. Call 508-627-4368 to register.

You can also stop by the library during our open hours for help with tech-related issues.
Inkjet Cartridge Recycling Program
Support our local Vineyard League by recycling ink jet cartridges. The League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard has drop boxes for collecting used printer inkjet cartridges in all six towns, including at the Edgartown Library. Cartridges are sent to a recycler, keeping them out of landfills. Please note, inkjet cartridges are the only kind that can be accepted.
