Dear St. Serra Parents,

As we move through the year and near the completion of the second trimester, I would like to reiterate that each individual here at St. Serra continues to put forth their very best effort to keep our doors open. We want to ensure that your child is receiving a high quality education.

This is a very busy time of year as the school continues to go about our day-to-day business and in addition, planning for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. As final decisions are made, we will communicate to you in a timely manner.

You should be very proud of your children as they continue to show resilience on a daily basis. They truly enjoy being at school and demonstrate their love for St. Serra. They are engaged in our protocols and procedures, and are especially absorbed in their learning.

We have just completed 5 weeks without a COVID-19 case on campus. I am extremely encouraged that things are getting better around our country as the ‘numbers’ are trending downward. This gives me optimism and hope that eventually we will be able to bring some normalcy back to our campus which includes parents being on campus, regular in-person meetings, and programs brought back that have been suspended for this year. I appreciate your support and enthusiasm that you share with St. Serra that makes it a great place to be!

Always Striving,

Tim Tolzda
Sr. Principal
For Lent, For Life: Operation Rice Bowl
Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through Catholic Relief Services, CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and malnutrition, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all. 75% of your donations go to support CRS work around the world and 25% of gifts stay right here within our Diocese of Orange for hunger and poverty alleviation efforts throughout Orange County.
2021-2022 Educational Cost Assistance Applications Open
At St. Junipero Serra Catholic School, it is our desire that our students continue to have the opportunity to receive a well-rounded Catholic education. Should financial challenges arise, we offer educational cost assistance. Read more about the process and how to apply.
Knights of Columbus Youth Poster Contest
Every year, the Knights of Columbus at St. Kilian Parish sponsor a youth art contest open to all Catholic elementary students. This year's theme is to demonstrate an understanding of one of the mysteries of the Rosary. The contest is open to all students in grades 1-8. There is a first-place prize of $150 and a second-place prize of $50 to be awarded in each of two categories: first-fourth grade and fifth-eighth grade. All entries must be turned in to the Council website by March 26, 2021. Please see the attached document for detailed information and an official entry form.
Looking Ahead
For planning purposes, please note that Holy Thursday, April 1, is a minimum day with dismissal at 11:15 a.m. for Preschool and 12:10 p.m. for TK-grade 8. Extended Care will be available for regular extended care students only. No drop-ins will be accepted that day. There will be no school on Friday, April 2 in observance of Good Friday and we are the following week for Easter Break.
Lower School Parents: Please have iPads fully charged
Please be sure that your child comes with their St. Serra iPad fully charged every day.
2020-2021 Annual Giving
Annual Giving is our families’ opportunity to help provide our students with amazing facilities, world class education and a place to grow in faith. St. Serra has important needs outside of the general budget, and success in achieving these goals lies in our ability to work together "Hand in Hand."
Updated COVID-19 Protocol & Student Symptom Decision Tree
The CDC and the Orange County Health Care Agency continually review and adjust their suggested practices and protocols based on emerging information about COVID-19. This memo is to announce some important changes regarding St. Serra’s COVID-19 protocols based on CDC and OCHCA guidance. Effective January 1, 2021, St. Serra has updated the return-to-school policy when a student
is exposed to COVID-19.
COVID-19 Health & Safety Reminders
Anytime that a face shield is worn, it must be with a face mask under the shield for all staff and students in all grades. It is important that we practice social distancing throughout our school and maintain good hygiene by washing hands on a consistent basis. Finally, if your child is feeling ill and displaying any COVID-19 related symptoms, please keep them home and contact your family medical professional regarding the situation. We appreciate your continued support which will help St. Serra stay open for in-person learning.
