THE CATHOLIC TIMES - CONGRATULATE A GRADUATE
The Catholic Times is offering an opportunity for parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and teachers to honor 2021 graduates (eighth grade, high school or college) with a congratulatory ad in the May 24 special edition of The Catholic Times. Several options will be available to choose. You will be able to include a personal message of up to 20 words that’s suitable to print and does not include any copyrighted material. The cost is $25 for a text-only ad and $30 with a submitted photo of the graduate. The deadline to request an ad is Thursday, May 13. Complete the online form at https://columbuscatholic.org/graduate-congratulation-ads. If you choose the photo option, send a jpeg image to Editor Doug Bean at dbean@columbuscatholic.org. Requests also can be emailed to the editor at the same address. Ad proofs will be sent via email for approval when possible before publication. Contact Doug Bean at dbean@columbuscatholic.org or at 614-224-5195 with questions.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
As Bishop Hartley moves forward and a new administrative team takes the lead, we want to define our vision and mission for the next several years. We have kicked off a strategic planning process to help us develop a plan as we move forward. The process includes a variety of Hartley stakeholders: leadership, teachers, students, parents & families, alumni, and the larger community.

This is a last call for your input at this stage of the process, as it closes this weekend. Please complete the survey linked here, if you have not already done so.
USED UNIFORMS
The House Parent Organization (HPO) is holding a used uniform sale during Soaring Night for incoming freshman on May 2nd. The sale will be offered again on May 11 and 12, 6:30-7:30p.m. in the TACC Gym for current families.

If anyone has uniform pieces which are no longer needed (seniors) or outgrown, please consider donating them for the sale. Any donations can be sent to Molly Maloof in room 306.
MASS WITH THE BISHOP
Bishop Robert Brennan will join us May 4th to celebrate our Founders Day liturgy. He will meet with all seniors before the Mass that day. We are looking forward to having him with us again.
ACT EXTENDED REVIEW
At the request of several juniors, Mrs. Maloof will offer an extended version of the ACT review beginning in May and continuing through August. Since this review will continue over the summer, she is asking that students make a commitment to review (many sign up for the condensed review and do not attend regularly). Anyone interested should email Mrs. Maloof by May 10.

  • We will use the Barron’s ACT 36 book available from Counseling as our text. If you do not already have one, please pick it up from the Counseling Office or Mrs. Maloof.

  • Questions? Email or see Mrs. Maloof (room 306).
MENINGITIS VACCINE FOR RISING SENIORS
Junior parents should be aware that all students entering 12th grade are now required by state law to be fully vaccinated against meningitis on or before their Senior year (ORC 3313.671).

The meningococcal vaccine helps to protect your child against meningitis, a deadly infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord. Parents / Guardians of incoming seniors must provide the school with documentation from a health care provider on or before the first day of school indicating that the student has been fully vaccinated against meningitis.

A single dose of Menactra or Meneveo vaccine should be given at age 11 through 12 with a booster dose at age 16 years. If the first dose is administered at age 16 through 18 a booster is not needed. (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control)

If you have any questions about this policy or if you are unsure if your child has met this requirement please contact your HCP or Regina Hinterschied RN, School Nurse 614 237-5421 Ex. 10629 or email rhinterschied4163@columbus.k12.oh.us.

Thank you for attention to this important health matter.
HARTLEY STUDENTS IN THE NEWS
Senior, Mel Magin, was one of 40 youth from around Ohio representing 4-H, FFA, and Ohio Farm Bureau selected for the 2021 Ohio Youth Capital Challenge. The Ohio Youth Capital Challenge is for youths who want to learn more about government and public policy and make a difference in their community.

Participants learn how to identify local issues, create solutions, and follow the process through state government. Participants complete a series of online modules with topics designed to help them have a hands-on advocacy experience. Each team presents their solutions for the opportunity to receive a scholarship. Mel is an eight-year member of 4-H in Franklin County.
HARTLEY ALUMNI IN THE NEWS
Bishop Hartley alumnus, Shawn Smith-Davis (’14), a member of the 134th Columbus Police Department recruit class which completed training in February 2021, is now participating in the department’s field training program.
