Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

I hope that you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break.

We jumped right into Advent after the Thanksgiving holiday.  Each week we have an all-school Advent service by the Advent wreath in the gathering space of church.  The first Advent service was on Monday and we focused on keeping our hearts and minds open for the coming of Christ.

We are having a “Dress for Christmas” dress down day this coming Friday.  The parish has quite a few families that are struggling financially this year.  Funds collected on Friday will go to purchase Christmas presents and food for families in need in our OLOL community.  We are speaking to the children about how giving of our talents and treasures is a wonderful Advent gift.  Thank you for helping teach our children the importance of helping out those in need during Christmas.

We have some upcoming events that I hope you have on your calendar.  On Wednesday, December 14th is the “Christmas for the Children'' event in our school. This year we are teaming up with the OLOL Faith Formation program   Children of all ages will participate in STEM activities that have a Christmas theme.  The OLOL Youth Ministry students will be directing students at each of the stations.   This provides leadership opportunities for our older students while our younger students work on their problem-solving skills.  The event starts at 5:30PM.

The annual Christmas Concert is Thursday, December 15th at 6:30PM in church.   If you are not already in the Christmas spirit, you will be following the concert.  The 8th grade class will hold a bake sale after the event.

“It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us the memories of goodness and thus open the doors to hope” - Pope Benedict XVI

Cavalier Card Winners

Students who make good choices at school are awarded Cavalier Cards. Each week we have a drawing where some lucky students win a prize.

Cavalier card winners return next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

OLOL Christmas Concert

Believe it or not, students are already working hard on their music for the Christmas Concert!!

The Our Lady of Lourdes Christmas Concert, Celebrate! will be Thursday, December 15.  The concert will be held in the Church and will begin at 6:30 P.M.  All 4 year-old Preschool through 8th grade students are participating in the concert.  The concert is a mandatory performance for all students - every voice and instrument matters - their classmates are counting on them!

Students should dress nicely for the concert.  Boys should wear nice pants (no blue jeans, no sweat pants, no shorts) and a nice shirt (button down or polo shirt).  Sweaters, suit coats, ties, etc. are all fine, but not necessary. Girls can wear nice pants and a nice shirt, a skirt and a nice shirt, or a dress.  Skirts or dresses should reach the knee or should have leggings worn underneath.  Leggings should only be worn under a skirt or tunic-legth top.

All band students should arrive at school and meet in the band room by 6:00 P.M.  All other students should arrive in church by 6:15 P.M.  All students should plan on staying for the entire concert as we will be performing as a whole school at the close of the concert.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail Mrs. Lewis at mlewis@gracesystem.org.
