Join Mayor Gutierrez to Honor the Fallen this Memorial Day
Join Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez on Monday, May 31, at 11 a.m., as he honors the sacrifices made by the heroes who gave their lives in service to the nation.
 
The City of Moreno Valley's 2021 Memorial Day Address will be available for online streaming via Facebook and YouTube and will be broadcast live on local cable television on Channel MV3.

City Enhances Public Safety with New Pedestrian Beacon at Woodland Park
Taking a springtime stroll to Woodland Park? Make sure to use the City’s new pedestrian hybrid flashing beacon at Woodland Park on Cactus Avenue and Redwing Drive. The crosswalk has been upgraded to accommodate residents of all abilities.
 
Pedestrians can simply push the button on the beacon, which flashes and alerts drivers to either slow down or stop. Once pedestrians have crossed the road safely, the beacon will no longer flash, and motorists may resume their travels. The project was funded by Measure A and State SB821 Bicycle and the Pedestrian Facilities Program.

Pet of the Week: Sammy
Our Pet of the Week is Sammy. She is an adorable four-year-old female Terrier Mix. Staff at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter call her Sammy Sweetheart because she is so loveable and sweet-mannered. Sammy makes friends fast and would love to become part of your family.

Stay Safe Near Railways
You're probably wondering why Moreno Valley at Work is featuring an article on rail safety when MoVal does not have an active railway. It's because the City of Moreno Valley aims to keep its residents safe, no matter where their travels take them. Chances are most people encounter railways regularly.

Here are a few helpful tips to stay safe near railways:

  • The only safe place to cross the railroad tracks is at a designated public crossing.
  • It can take a mile or more for a train to stop.
  • It is illegal to be on the railroad right of way unless you are at a public crossing.
  • Trains hang over the tracks at least three feet in both directions. If you are in the right of way next to the tracks, you can be hit.
  • Never walk around or behind lowered gates at a crossing.
  • DO NOT cross the tracks until the lights have stopped flashing.
  • Never try to beat a train at a crossing - it's not worth it!
