County Vaccine Updates
Contra Costa County Health shared information on vaccinations with schools: Please visit the County Health website for more information. All Contra Costa County residents 12 and older can sign up through the Contra Costa Health website to receive a vaccine.
We are not mandating vaccinations, but we do want to provide the most current information from the County. We know some families are hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccine, and we encourage all families to discuss these concerns with their family healthcare provider.

Tiny House Project
Next year, 50 students will design and build a sustainable tiny house on wheels for seasonal farmworkers in Contra Costa County as part of "Engineering for Social Good," a new course that introduces 11th and 12th graders to core design thinking and engineering concepts through hands-on, community projects. This is the first project of its kind in Carondelet's history, and we need your support to make it happen!
Have woodworking tools you're no longer using? Interested in mentoring students in architecture, engineering, solar energy design, electrical, plumbing, or construction? Want to sponsor the project or able to offer discounts on lumber, appliances, or other materials? Contact Chris Walsh ASAP to get involved!

Thank you, Volunteers!
We are so grateful for the work of our parent volunteers throughout this school year. Their gifts of time and talent benefited our entire community during extraordinary circumstances, and we deeply appreciate their partnership. Special thanks to Mara Hanck, Parents Association Board President, and Rick Schultz, Fathers Club President, for their commitment to our students, school, and the families of CHS.

|
Rick (pictured) is our inaugural Fathers Club president, inspirational leader, friend, and emcee. His tenure reflects the Fathers Club Mission: Create fellowship and enhance the high school experience for daughters and families by modeling a spirit of volunteerism. Rick created the Fathers Club Scholarship Fund to assist single families in need, oversaw the Fathers Club Swing Into Spring Golf Tournament, organized guest speakers from the Carondelet community, and kept fathers engaged in a year of Zoom fatigue. Though he’s ‘retiring’ as daughters, Catherine ‘21 and Nora ‘21, graduate, Rick will always be part of our community.
Mara overcame many of the COVID challenges this year as PAB president, specifically how to provide a Crab Feed to the community during a pandemic. She and the Board worked tirelessly to develop a plan including a drive-thru process, pricing and packaging, marketing, and galvanizing volunteers. The challenging logistics proved no match for the PAB, who raised approximately $15K in support of our students. We are thrilled that Mara has agreed to serve as PAB President for one more year.
Thank you, parent volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without ALL of YOU!

Celebrating AAPI Month
All this month, we're celebrating Asian-American and Pacific Islander heritage! Students and staff are creating many ways for our community to learn more about AAPI culture, people, and their many contributions to our society. Check out all that the API Club is doing, including the video series made on-campus, displays in the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation, and daily prayers students are seeing every day in May.

Yearbooks
2021 Yearbooks will be distributed to all students on June 17 from 1-4 PM. A yearbook has automatically been ordered for all students—you didn't need to do anything. If your student missed picking up a 2020 yearbook, they can pick up both together. Please contact or see Ms. Koski with any questions.

Parking Permits
Class-specific parking form requests are available. On-campus parking is a privilege for many of our juniors and seniors. This is not a first-come, first-served application process. All applications before the deadline will be considered. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate all of our driving students.
Morning shuttle registration now open
Morning shuttle service is expected to resume at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year. Morning shuttle service is filled on a first-come, first-served basis at $500 per semester with communal pick-up locations in Livermore, Pleasanton, and Danville. Registration is now open to Carondelet students for the 2021-22 school year.

Goodbye Ms. Malisa Meemari!
A special note from Ms. Malisa:
"It is with mixed emotions that I say goodbye to Carondelet and the incredible community of faculty, staff, students, and families here. Roles have reversed and I am a student again! I am currently a Master of Nursing student at SFSU! As difficult as it is to leave Carondelet, I am humbled and blessed to have been part of an organization that has love, compassion, joy, and excellence interweaved into its foundation. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Go Cougars!"

2021-22 Uniform Updates
To ensure we are meeting the needs of the times, preparing young women for the future, and keeping diversity, equity, and inclusion at the core of our decision-making, we regularly review our student handbook policies—including the school uniform. For the 2021-22 school year, we continue with the adapted casual uniform as our standard everyday uniform, implemented this year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will not be required to purchase traditional uniform pieces from Mills Uniform Company, but instead are encouraged to purchase approved bottoms from a vendor of choice and tops from our online store. Students are welcome to purchase and wear any Mills uniform pieces, including skirts, however appropriate skirt length, no shorter than mid-thigh, will be required at all times. Our uniform policy is available on the Uniform Resources webpage.
Inappropriate skirt length has become increasingly problematic in recent years, and our uniform skirts should not feed into body-shaming, sexist, and generally discriminatory behaviors. Appropriate skirt lengths can prevent this. Faculty and staff best serve our students by focusing on education and relationships, not policing skirt length. We expect our students to adapt to longer skirts, and to keep each other accountable with the help and support of our parent community. If skirt length remains an issue throughout the 2021-22 school year, we will have no choice but to phase out the traditional uniform skirt.
We plan to create a dress code task force made up of students and faculty members to research and propose a reimagined dress code for the 2023-24 school year and beyond. If you have any questions about the current uniform policy or you are interested in being a part of our dress code task force, please connect with Caitlin Main ’05, Dean of Students.
