Dear

Our residents are enjoying getting outside in the sunshine where they can - did you know that gardening can be a wonderful way to keep the mind active and alert? More on that below.

We all really enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations with lots of themed activities and crafts.

We've also recently celebrated in true 'carnival' style with our summer event and have a lovely story to share about our latest night senior carer - Elizabeth Cottham.

Here's an update from us from the month of June.

We hope you have a fabulous summer.

Best wishes

Niral
Jubilee Celebrations
It was a busy Jubilee weekend here at Birchwood House.
As always, we celebrated this fabulous weekend in true British style. Staff went all out to royally decorate our beautiful home with Union Jack flags, bunting and balloons.

Here's a picture of two of our residents raising a toast to Her Majesty The Queen.
A 'royally' great weekend!
From colouring Union Jack bunting to
perfecting our own crowns, our residents have all really enjoyed the Jubilee.

Alongside Jubilee crafts, we enjoyed taking some time out to watch the full celebrations.

Many of our residents hold very special memories throughout the 70 years since The Queen was crowned and so there were smiles all round.
Elizabeth Cottham
We're delighted to share with you that we have a lovely new night senior carer, Elizabeth Cottham.

Elizabeth joined our team following on from a visit with one of our residents.

She immediately warmed to the home and loved the happy atmosphere so called us as soon as she'd left her visit and applied for a role here.

We are so very pleased to have you on board, Elizabeth.
Strike a pose!
It's been a while since the team at Birchwood House was able to get together and let our hair down.

So we really enjoyed trying our hand at bowling recently.

It's fair to say that some of us were better at it than others! But it was great fun to enjoy some time together as a team outside of work. We are already looking forward to planning our next team outing!
Elia's Kitchen - Elia's easy-bake meatloaf
At Birchwood House, we’re lucky enough to have our own in-house chef, Elia Cicatiello. Elia comes from Naples, Italy, and, has worked as a professional chef since he was 18. Whilst he’s certainly a master at producing Italian classics, he’s also excellent at creating a wide variety of nutritious dishes and cuisines to suit all tastebuds.

In our new blog series, Elia shares his top recipes, all cooked from scratch in our kitchen. We hope you enjoy recreating these in your own homes.
Carnival Event 22nd June
There was a full carnival atmosphere last week as staff and residents spent the day celebrating our very own carnival-themed summer event.

Complete with fun and accessible fairground games, food and live music, our stunning former manor house was again transformed with brightly coloured decorations and all the fun of the fair.

Residents tried their hand at classic fairground games, made accessible for all, including hook-a-duck, high striker, hoopla and a coconut shy.
How the Elderly Can Benefit from Gardening
We’re incredibly lucky here at Birchwood House to have nine acres of landscaped gardens right on our doorstep, which residents can enjoy at all times of the year.

There are ample benefits to getting outside and gardening, particularly for the elderly. From improving dexterity to reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, gardening is a wonderful way to maintain wellbeing.

🎈Please join us in wishing a happy birthday this month to Pat, Pauline, Mary, Shirley, Natalie, Suzy and Abigail - we hope you have a great day! 🎈
