A Repair Cafe is a free community event. You bring your broken but beloved items and together with volunteer repair coaches, WE FIX THEM! People bring all kinds of things to a repair cafe: clocks and other mechanical items; chairs, frames, and other wooden items; electrical items and small appliances; digital devices; clothing and textiles; dolls, stuffed animals, and toys, tools in need of sharpening; jewelry and watches; and so much more! Most items get fixed, and even when they don’t – we have a good time trying!
We are looking for “Repair Coaches” to guide people in fixing all kinds of things. Repair coaches bring their own tools and supplies and offer repairs at no cost. If you would like to volunteer, the commitment can be on a per-event basis.

Each year since our founding in 2009, UlsterCorps has hosted a Service Summit at SUNY New Paltz bringing together students, volunteers and community leaders from the nonprofit, business, higher education and governmental sectors to address the work and value of volunteerism and collaborative projects in Ulster County. The focus for the 2024 Summit will be environmental issues and sustainability, specifically ways that young people can and are making a difference. It will feature panel discussions of successful case studies, new models, and best practices. As always it will include roundtable discussions giving all attendees an opportunity to participate and network. Members of the community interested in volunteering with these initiatives are welcome to attend.
The Summit, which is free to participants, is part of the on-going work of UlsterCorps to deepen the knowledge about volunteerism and to find ways to strengthen a culture of service and collaboration in Ulster County. A locally-sourced, healthy breakfast is included. Registration is limited to the first 55 individuals to register by emailing register@ulstercorps.org or calling/texting 845-481-0331.

A Home Within, Ulster County | A Home Within is a national nonprofit founded to provide free psychotherapy “for as long as it takes” for any child or adult who has spent time in foster care or kinship care. Continuity in psychotherapy is important for all children and adolescents. This is especially true for children who have had disruptions in care by their family. A Home Within therapists commit to working with their child pro bono once weekly until the child no longer needs them. | |
AHW therapists work closely with the Ulster County Department of Social Services (DSS). Most of our clients are children or adolescents who are in kinship care or foster care. Therapists must have completed a post-graduate training in psychotherapy and be certified, licensed, or working under supervision. To support their work every therapist participates weekly in a supervision group that meets mostly on zoom. Our therapists find the experience of working with AHW clients and the supervision groups to be a rich and rewarding experience.
Volunteering with A Home Within “gave more than it took…It helped me, hands on, to be a better therapist.” Tim Rodier, AHW Volunteer Therapist and Consultation Group Leader.
In the video below Dennis McCarthy, a consultant to AHW and founder of the Metamorfos Institute, and Julie Rose and Nina Tantillo, therapist volunteers for AHW for over 10 years, share their experiences.

Have you ever wished you could harness the collective wisdom of our community and help make our best ideas a reality?
Rosendale Heart & Soul is a group of regular folks who care deeply about our town. Our mission is simple: we want to empower the full diversity of Rosendalians to contribute their ideas about the future of Rosendale. We accomplish this by listening to people, asking what they value most, and recording their ideas and desires. Whether meeting up with folks at our fun story-gathering parties, around-town community events, or on virtual chats, you’ll be helping everyone’s voice to be heard. We supply the training and support to make sure you are comfortable. This is a great opportunity for the curious to get to know our community in a deeper way- and people love to tell their stories!

HomeShare Woodstock
is expanding!
|
HomeShare Woodstock connects home providers and home seekers to help people remain in their communities, strengthen bonds between neighbors, and create mutually beneficial, affordable housing solutions.
HomeShare Woodstock is an innovative program matching homeowners who have extra living space with home seekers looking for safe and affordable rental situations. Ours is the first home sharing program in the state outside of New York City and the concept is new for people in our area. We serve towns within a 10 mile radius of Woodstock and currently have six Matches benefitting sixteen people!
| |
|
"I am delighted to have welcomed my new housemate into my home, as his contributions extend beyond mere assistance; he has become a genuine pleasure to be around. The Homeshare program has not only facilitated a mutually beneficial living arrangement but has also enriched my life with a compatible and amiable companion. Kudos to Family of Woodstock for orchestrating such a well-organized and supportive program.” Home Provider, Wittenberg
We need Volunteers!
HomeShare Woodstock is a program of Family of Woodstock. Our volunteers conduct intake interviews and assist with reference checking. If you have experience such as social work training, we would love to introduce you to our Woodstock Area Interview Team!
Contact homesharewoodstock@familyofwoodstockinc.org for more information and sign up for our newsletter. Or call Family at 845.679.2485 for our Project Director, Janice LaMotta.
Our BIG NEWS is HOME SHARE IS PLANNING AN EXPANSION TO KINGSTON! We are collaborating with the Kingston Housing Task Force on a Survey to see if there is interest in home sharing in Kingston. Would you be interested in helping to create Matches? Getting the word out? Or becoming a Home Provider or Seeker? For more information about the Kingston survey contact us at homesharekingston@familyofwoodstockinc.org and look for us on FaceBook.
