Hello!

Yesterday, we closed out February with a leap day! Want to know why Leap Year is a thing? Check out this "Star Talk" episode with Neil deGrasse Tyson and Chuck Nice.

Thank you to our B.E. Well students who attended the February meeting and presented about their recent trip to Washington, D.C., for the CADCA Leadership Forum.

Thank you to everyone who could attend our February meeting and our partner, the Burlington Library Public Library, for hosting us.

Anyone is welcome to come to a BHCC meeting. And I encourage you to bring a friend if you do attend.

Events and Announcements

Teen Movie Night!

B.E. Well is hosting its first "Movie Night Done Right" at the Burlington Public Library on March 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Thank you, Burlington Public Library, for your partnership with this event!

Students decided they would like to open the event to high school students in the Burlington area. We will see how that goes and possibly open it up to teens from other Skagit County schools.

We do need two more chaperones for this night. If you are available, please get in touch with Käaren at kaaren.flint@unitedgeneral.org

The 2nd "Movie Night Done Right" showing will be on Friday, April 12th. Same time, same place, and it will be a double feature! Stay tuned!

LOOKING FOR DONATIONS!

To make this event a fabulous success, we are looking for local businesses or individuals to donate cookies, candy, and soda.

Gift cards to raffle off would also be welcome!

Volunteer for Drug Take Back Day Here!

Drug Take Back Day!

Saturday, April 27th, is just around the corner! We will again partner with the Burlington Police Dept. to collect unused/unwanted/expired medication.

**This INCLUDES animal medication as well! So, check your medicine cabinets and your barns!

If you can't drop it off on April 27th, no worries! Here is a list of all the places in Skagit County where you can drop off your medication to be destroyed safely.

Mission: "To create substance-free, open-minded, safe spaces open to everyone to tackle mental health and substance use among our peers."

We Need YOU!!

B.E. Well, students are hosting two "Movie Night Done Right" events, one in March and one in April. They are also trying to plan an end-of-the-year bonfire for students and are working with Käaren and BHCC to explore this idea. Each event is substance-free and provides a safe space for teens to be themselves.

They need chaperones and cookie, soda, and candy donations! If you are interested in supporting movie night, let Käaren know! Please email her at kaaren.flint@unitedgeneral.org.

Instagram and Facebook

B.E. Well's Instagram page and Facebook pages are now live! You can check out the trip to D.C. and all the things we did there and follow them to see the positivity they share, helpful tools for teens, and FUN!

Recent/Upcoming Trainings & Additional Information

Superintendent Dr. Chris Pearson will attend BHCC's March 19th meeting at the Burlington Public Library. We will have some open discussion and do some community mapping together.

This past Tuesday, February 26th, two B.E. Well students, Tessa, and Käaren presented to the Burlington Edison School board about the recent trip they took to Washington DC. They even made it into the superintendent's newsletter!

"Other highlights from the month include our four B-EHS students who journeyed to Washington D.C., engaging with legislators to discuss their work with the newly-formed B-E Well club, focusing on mental health and youth substance use reduction. B-E Well students presented to the School Board this month, as well."

About Peer-to-Peer

Peer 2 Peer is a youth cannabis prevention program that trains middle and high school students to become peer educators, and it's part of BHCC's Sustainability Plan. After taking part in free (and fun!) training, peer educators are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to teach younger peers about health, coping with stress, the effects of cannabis, social norms, and more.

Donations and Fundraising

PayPal is LIVE!

You and your friends can now donate to BHCC via the donate page on our website!

Later in the spring, we will roll out a Venmo account, making it extra easy to collect money with just the scan of a QR code.

The money collected will help pay for things the DFC grant doesn't allow and expand our ability to engage with the community. It will also help support substance-free events for B.E. Well as they expand those kinds of opportunities for local teens.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything mentioned above, please contact Käaren or someone on the Leadership Team. We are happy to help!

Donate Today!

We are excited to announce that this year's Youth Got This Summit will be held on April 17th at Camp Korey!

The 2024 Summit is an opportunity for 7th- 9th-grade students to learn about healthy relationships, communication skills, and mental health coping strategies.

We are currently accepting applications for Group Leaders! If you or someone you know is interested, please click here for the flyer.
