Women, are you looking to live your best lives even as you engage in our day to day responsibilities?

Join Ilabeshi Aina, personal growth coach, for this interactive session which will help to answer some thought provoking questions while also providing some action plans.

She will focus on finding your inner happiness, managing your energy, and diminish your self doubt to embrace your abilities and skills.

This is a two hour workshop for women to learn to create boundaries and take action of their lives.

The Nevins Library is pleased to host the National Library of Medicine produced traveling exhibit Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn from March 4 - April 13. This exhibit, curated by the cartoon artist Ellen Forney, explores the emerging genre of literature that combines the art of comics and personal stories of health and illness. The art of comics, which combines words and pictures, gives approachability and emotional impact to these personal stories, and even to the clinical data they sometimes include. 

Join us Tuesday, March 12 at 7pm, when A. David Lewis, Program Director Master of the Health Sciences Program at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will give an overview of graphic medicine in general and then focus on cancer narratives and instances of health-related loneliness. 

We also have Graphic Medicine Kits available to borrow as well! Our kits combine 2-4 graphic novels, appropriate for adults and mature teens, on a mental or physical health topic with consumer health materials from trustworthy organizations. 

On Thursday, March 7 at 10:00am we will host a Zoom visit with historian and author Marion Gibson who will talk about her book, "Witchcraft: A History in 13 Trials". This book is a fascinating, vivid global history of witch trials across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, told through thirteen distinct trials that illuminate the pattern of demonization and conspiratorial thinking that has profoundly shaped human history.  

On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:00pm we will Zoom with producer, director, screenwriter, and debut author, Stan Zimmerman! He'll be discussing his new book "The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore". From personal experiences to the insider scoop, Stan will take us down memory lane about some of our most cherished TV shows - the making of, the stars, and the challenges.

You know how March always feel like a really long month? Well, it’s a good thing we have plenty of fun programs to keep kids and teens entertained all month long! In addition to our many regular offerings, we’ll also have some special programs this month.

For example, have you heard about our new “Growing Readers” initiative for parents and their young children? Generously supported by the Castle Fund of Methuen, “Growing Readers” seeks to create a supportive environment for new parents while also encouraging early literacy for their little ones (ages infant-18 mos.). And Methuen participants are specially invited to come to the Children’s Room to get a free tote bag and a first library card application for their youngsters (ages infant-18 mos.)! We’ll have a couple of “Growing Readers” programs in March – first, Little Groove Music uses real instruments in an immersive music class that fosters the love of music in our youngest patrons. And if you have young children (ages 2-6) who have just become big siblings (or will soon), you’ll want to bring them to our Big Sibling Storytime, where we’ll read stories and give them a special surprise to celebrate being a big sibling!

Other noteworthy special programs this month include a Ramadan Storytime (ages 3-8), presented by a guest reader from the Islamic Academy for Peace in Methuen; children will listen to stories, make a craft, and learn about the month-long observance of Ramadan. Older kids can enjoy Weaving with Lisa Buglione (ages 9-16), where they’ll create potholders from a table loom and small rugs from a floor loom! 

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes (including a bilingual program), book groups, teen programs, and more – keep an eye on the Youth Services Department calendar and Facebook page to keep track of what’s in store!
