Dear Residents –

On Sunday evening, our friends of the Jewish faith will begin their eight-day celebration of the Festival of Lights, known to the rest of the world as Hanukkah (or Chanukah). In celebration, the Chabad of the Nyacks will be holding three menorah lighting ceremonies:

1.    Sunday, December 18th at 4:00 pm at the gazebo on the corner of Cedar and Main Street, Nyack;

2.    Monday, December 19th at 6:00 pm at Piermont Village Hall, Piermont; and,

3.    Wednesday, December 21st at 6:00 pm at Braunsdorf Park, Pearl River.

Everyone is welcome, so please feel free to attend one or more of the ceremonies and celebrate the lighting of the menorah with your Orangetown friends and neighbors.

In case you missed Santa and friends this past weekend, you have two more opportunities to see him this Saturday, December 17, 2022. The Blauvelt Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a holiday party at the Blauvelt Fire House from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and Santa will be making a special appearance. Then Santa is dashing over on his sled to the Holiday Drive-Thru at the Tappan Volunteer Fire Department from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

There have been questions about what is happening to the property on Middletown Road in Pearl River where the fire took place last year. I am happy to report that the owner has filed an application to rebuild. The plans include both Dunkin’ Donuts and Dollar General. The gun shop has moved to another location and will not be returning. If all goes well, we will see construction starting this spring.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

During the holidays and with the growth of internet sales we all have more packages being shipped to our homes. Below are some tips on how to stop package thieves from ruining your holidays.

  • Ask for a tracking number to know when your package is delivered. Track your packages and try to be home at the time of delivery
  • Reroute or reschedule delivery of the package for when you will be home.
  • Request a signature for delivery to ensure the package will not be left at your door without you being there to safely bring the package inside.
  • Have your package delivered to your workplace.
  • Want your package placed at the back door or behind a porch plant instead? Leave a note specifying where you would like the package left.
  • Have your package delivered to the retail store from the chain where you purchased the item.
  • Install a smart security camera at your front door to catch the thieves in the act.
  • Insure your packages to guarantee that you will be reimbursed in the event your package is stolen

Finally, if you see someone going to your neighbor’s house and remove a package from their door step, get a good description of the individual to include their gender, race, clothing description, and call the police right away. If the person gets in a car do your best to get a good description of the vehicle to include color, body style, make, model and if possible license plate number including state.
