Government Relations Update: ARAWC at the Texas Conservative Coalition's Policy Forum

ARAWC leadership is excited to attend the upcoming Texas Conservative Coalition’s [TCC] Policy Forum in Austin on Thursday March 31st. The event will feature speakers including Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan, and Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board. Attending on behalf of ARAWC will be President Tim Osmond, Executive Committee members Jennifer Hurless and Karl Seelbach, and Government Relations Consultant Ryan Brannan. We are also pleased to announce that Representative Hugh Shine has agreed to sit with us for the event. Rep. Shine sits on the Business & Industry Committee and has extensive knowledge working on workers’ compensation related legislation at the Texas Legislature. Both Rep. Shine and the Texas Conservative Coalition have been a strong ally in supporting the Texas Model for workplace injury coverage, and we are thrilled for this opportunity to promote ARAWC and its goals with members of the Texas legislature.
Federal Government Relations Update - U.S. House of Representatives Passes the FAIR Act

On March 17, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal Act of 2022, which eliminates mandatory arbitration clauses in employment, consumer, and civil-rights cases. The bill now goes to the Senate for its consideration. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is leading a coalition of national and state business groups in opposition to the bill. ARAWC will continue to monitor the legislation and work with other business groups to oppose the elimination of mandatory arbitration provisions. As reported in ARAWC’s Member Update last month, the legislation follows on the heels of Congress passing and the President signing the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act, which voids forced arbitration clauses for claims of sexual assault or harassment.
