Greetings families,
As we find ourselves closing in on the third quarter, there is much to stop and be thankful for. Gratitude is fundamental to a life well lived, and it must be a part of our daily conversations as educators and as parents. Our vision to cultivate the hearts and minds of students in the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty is the foundation upon which this gratitude is built.
Truth cannot be taken from us; it cannot be obstructed. Though obstacles abound, our scholars, at home and in the classroom are overcoming barriers to access the great ideas and be cultivated in their understanding of the world around them and within them. Of all the things that have changed over the past year, the transformative knowledge of the Truth is inalienable. This knowledge is not one of mere utility – developing skills or memorizing facts that we hope one day will be used in a “real life scenario.” Skills and handiness are important, yes, but the reason we teach what we do is because our students begin living their real lives right here and right now. And these formative years help shape them to be the person they will grow up to be. They are humans in need of meaning, little humans though they are, and we are here to partner with you in to help them find the meaning infused in every aspect of life – and meaning is found in the pursuit of the Truth.
The whole world is teeming with Beauty if we pay enough attention. Whether it’s the captivating formation of clouds, the puzzling composition of a dirt clod, the mesmerizing behavior of the hummingbird, or the elegant and simple structure of a sentence diagram or a bar model, an eye well-trained is never in want of beauty. How wonderful it is that we can engage with an entrancing piece of music or a moving work of art and find solitude in the midst of a storm! Our students fill their hearts with poetry, and they can call these to mind even when separated from their school books. These poems will continue to nurture and comfort them as they themselves mature. Every fiber of the world is filled with Beauty.
Goodness is the tricky one. In this world it is easy to fix our eyes on where we all inevitably fall short. The battle between good and evil rages on, and it is easy to dwell on the latter. But our response should not be to close our eyes to it. This is not in line with Truth. We can see a proper response manifested in our approach to literature. We allow our students to enter a world discovered and captivated by the collective imagination of generations of children, and in this safe and rich space, explore questions or morality and virtue. They see the complexities of human nature, but the clear simplicity of Goodness reigning throughout. We see, in our literature, that the evil is only permitted to further serve the cause of goodness. The bad is present, but because it is not grounded in Truth, it falls away, and in the end, good remains. I believe the works of fiction are so compelling because they are not really fiction, they are reflections of reality. Ultimately, Goodness reigns.
These fundamentals do not change. We focus on Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, because they are not fleeting. They ultimately cannot be threatened because these three transcendentals rise above our present circumstances. This is the basis of gratitude. We can always be grateful because being grateful is about being grounded in reality. Gratitude is not naïve or wishful thinking; it is solid, sound, and true thinking. This is what we hope to instill in our students. A heart filled with gratitude.
I also want to share, on a personal note, my gratitude for you. This community has continued to demonstrate unquenchable good will throughout all the slings and arrows thrown our way this year. Your thoughtfulness and respect for our teachers, your demonstrated care for one another, and your relentless love for your children have shown brightly as beacons through this long winter. This is a special place, and I am lucky to be a part of it.

Kindergarten-4th Grade Re-enrollment through March 26
Re-enrollment for current Kindergarten-4th grade students is underway. Look for an email from Great Hearts with further instructions. You will complete the re-enrollment packet online through the Great Hearts Parent Portal. Current 5th grade students should have already submitted their paperwork to Trivium Prep.

Athenian Field Day is coming April 1!
We are excited to announce that we will host Athenian Field Day on the half day, Thursday, April 1! More information will follow after the break, but please save the date. All activities will follow our current on-campus health and safety guidelines for social distancing. We look forward to celebrating together in the Athenian tradition on this day.

Countdown to Tax Day with Tax Credit Tuesdays
We are celebrating on Tuesdays prior to Tax Day, April 15! Each week we will a draw a new winner of a $25 gift card. There will be a $100 Amazon gift card drawing at the end of the Tax Credit drive!
Your entries will cumulate weekly. The sooner you contribute your Tax Credit, the more opportunities to win! All families who have already submitted Tax Credits will be entered in the drawings. Winners will be announced weekly in the Echo. Contribute today here!

Quarter 3 Student Evaluations
Student grades for the 3rd Quarter will be available Friday, March 12. At that time, the PowerSchool parent portal will be opened temporarily for you to view your students' report card(s). You will be notified by email on March 12 when evaluations are ready to view.
Important Reminders for Student Drop-off/Pick-up
Parents, as a reminder, at this time there is NO student walk-up for drop-off or pick-up at any entrance.
Parents will need to have their pick-up cards in order to be scanned at pick-up. If you do not have a pick-up card, please email strujillo@archwaytriviumeast.org.
Please review these slides in coordination with the Traffic Flow Procedures in our Family Handbook for information on how to navigate drop-off and pick-up next week. If you have questions about the drop-off and pick-up procedure, please reach out to the Front Office.

Great Gatsby (Chapters 4-6) Seminar - Thursday, March 25
Thank you to those who joined us for our first seminar this week. If you missed the first session, it's not to late to join us. We'll meet again on Thursday, March 25 to discuss Chapters 4-6 of The Great Gatsby. This been a wonderful way to have a meaningful conversation about the Great Ideas together. When our young Athenians enter high school as freshmen, they will read this text together! If you are interested in joining or would like to learn more, please reach out to Mr. Philabaum directly, or alternatively, fill out the following form: Great Gatsby Seminar Sign-up.
