Featured Member: Jamal Boyce

|
Jamal is the Director of Technology at Lynwood Unified School District. He was kind enough to tell us a little about himself, his background, and his experience being a CITE member.
|
How long have you been in your current role and how did you get there?
"I have been in my present role as a Director of Technology since August 2019. I initially came into the school district in 2016 as a Senior Network Administrator. I held that role for a couple years until my supervisor, the Assistant Director of Technology, took a promotional position at another district. From there, I took on the interim role as the Assistant Director of Technology. Later, a director position was created, which I applied for and was awarded. I also want to announce that I will begin my journey as the CTO of Colton Joint Unified School District in the upcoming weeks, all thanks to my training gleaned from the CITE CTO Mentor program."
|
|
How long have you been a CITE member? What is your favorite memory from a CITE event?
"I have been an active member since 2019. By far the best memory I have is from this past CITE conference in Sacramento. I had the opportunity to represent Cohort 14 and share my leadership journey. The response from that speech was ridiculous, to say the least, but I am glad my story resonated with so many people, as I tried to connect at the human-level as much as possible."
What do you do in your (limited) free time?
"Ha...limited. Well, a couple things that this pandemic shed a light on was the importance of physical health and the impact that loved ones have on one's mental health. So I try to do activities that address both, like take my kids on bike rides to the park. I also have been coaching my kids in soccer, which I don't play, and basketball, which I do, just so they remain active and have the opportunity to create friendships with other kids their age as well."
Are there any special shoutouts you'd like to give to someone in your life or the CITE Community who has made a special impact on you?
"I would love to thank my CITE CTO Mentor, David Soto, for guiding me through the CITE CTO Mentor Program and pushing me to become a more confident leader. I want to give a big shout out to Cohort 14, One 4 All, for their support during the pandemic and allowing me to be a rock star for a day at this past CITE Conference. Lastly, I want to thank my family for pushing me to be a better husband, father, and leader."

|
CITE has a promotional offer on A5 licensing through our CAMSA program. Districts can utilize the added benefits of A5 licenses, such as auditing features, security upgrades, telephonic (VOIP) options, and PowerBI dashboard reporting. The price of A5 licensing has been a challenge in districts adopting the enhanced licenses. CITE, Softchoice, and Microsoft have come together with a phenomenal 20% discount during your first year. Take advantage of discounted licenses while the offer is available!
Are you already a CAMSA Customer? If so, Softchoice is contacting CAMSA members for renewals through March 1. They are also sending out customer satisfaction surveys to help us ensure your feedback is being heard!
