Stephen Parker, Ph.D, establishes new Epigenomic Metabolic Medicine Center (EM2C)
Congratulations to Dr. Stephen Parker, Associate Professor of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics, Human Genetics, and Biostatistics on the formation of the Epigenomic Metabolic Medicine Center (EM2C) at the U-M Medical School. The new Center aims to perform population-scale single-cell multi-omics profiling with the goal of better understanding how genetic variations contribute to common, complex diseases, such as diabetes and related traits. Once new genetic mechanisms are identified, researchers can use this information to develop better strategies to detect, treat, and prevent these diseases.

Faculty Scholar Jay Brito Querido, Ph.D., publishes new review article focusing on the RNA translation initiation process
In the review, Jay Brito Querido, Ph.D., and colleagues Irene Díaz-López, Ph.D., and Vinki Ramakrishnan, Ph.D., from Cambridge University, United Kingdom, discuss the current state of knowledge on eukaryotic translation initiation. They focus specifically on recent advances in understanding the processes involved in assembling the pre-initiation complex, and ribosome scanning along the 5′ untranslated region of mRNA. Congratulations Jay!
