Wildlife Ordinance Workshop June 10th
City Planning recently released the Draft Wildlife Ordinance for public comment along with additional project information on the new Wildlife Pilot Study webpage. The Department would now like to invite you to a live, online workshop to hear additional feedback and clarify questions about the ordinance.

Wildlife Ordinance Online Workshop
Thursday, June 10, 2021
6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Wildlife Pilot Study has informed the creation of a draft ordinance to support the City’s sustainability goals to conserve and protect important habitats and the connections between them. The effort identifies areas of ecological value for wildlife in the City of Los Angeles and proposes regulations for new development that can be more compatible with the land, water, plants, and animals that make up our city’s world class natural environment.

Los Angeles City Planning continues to value your input and participation. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, engagement continues online, expanded resources have been made available online and staff remain available to listen and discuss. You can learn more about the Wildlife Pilot Study Program and sign up to get updates from the Wildlife team.. Please send comments or questions to Lena Mik at OurLA2040@lacity.org

Thank you for your continued engagement with Los Angeles City Planning.

Increasing Investment in Los Angeles
L.A. Controller Ron Galperin recently issued a letter to Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles City Council recommending a series of measures to increase contracting with local businesses in order to support communities, create jobs and boost sales tax revenue to pay for more neighborhood services. He found that Council-controlled City departments paid out $7 million in sales taxes that went to other California jurisdictions for commodities purchased from FY 2018 to FY 2020. During the same period, the City paid just $4.1 million in sales taxes that went back into L.A.’s General Fund for commodities purchased from Los Angeles-based vendors.

LA City Planning News
Fair Share Housing Report
On May 25, City Planning released a report that outlines strategies to assist with the equitable distribution of affordable housing. The Fair Share Report proposes the establishment of housing targets by community to ensure that equity is at the forefront of future land use considerations.

The centerpiece of the report is the introduction of a new methodology that prioritizes the fair distribution of affordable units. By addressing issues related to zoning capacity, the new methodology will ensure that Los Angeles’s community-by-community approach to planning complements citywide objectives for accommodating growth in a way that furthers equity.

The report also calls on the City Council to consider the development of additional housing incentive programs that would streamline the approval process for affordable units and expand the City’s existing programs across more neighborhoods where housing is needed.

Play It Safe As LA County Reopens
As the weather gets warmer and LA County reopens, play it safe with your family at playgrounds and other shared outdoor areas.
Remember, kids must:
  • Wear a mask (Ages 2 and up),
  • Wash their hands, and
  • Stay 6 feet apart from playmates.
Los Angeles County will align with the State's June 15 plans that ease many capacity limits and distancing requirements, and adopt CDC's masking guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. For those aged 12 and over, learn about mask guidance for fully vaccinated people and for those that are not fully vaccinated.

2021 City of Los Angeles Redistricting
Every ten years following the decennial U.S. Census, the Los Angeles City Charter requires that district boundaries for the City Council be redrawn so that each district is substantially equal in population. As part of this process, a twenty-one member Redistricting Commission is formed with members from the public with the authority to make recommendations on a redistricting plan to the City Council that sets boundaries for the City Council districts. Redistricting is primarily done using U.S. Census data, which is usually released around March 31, 2021, but is expected to be delayed until August or September 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Per the City Charter, the redistricting process for the City of Los Angeles must be completed by December 31, 2021.
