Please also note that garbage collection will be delayed by one day for the week following Memorial Day. For example, Monday pickup will take place on Tuesday, and Tuesday pickup will occur on Wednesday, and so on. View the Waste Management pickup schedule here.
COVID-19 Vaccine Updates
All Illinois residents ages 12 and up are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination registration and appointments can be found by visiting the AllVax portal. Households that are currently registered through this portal and are interested in scheduling a vaccine for their children should add them to their profile instead of setting up a separate account. The Lake County Fairgrounds is offering walk-in hours and evening appointments on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. Residents who need assistance registering for an appointment can call 833-621-1284. Vaccine locations around the state can be found here. To search by zip code, visit Vaccine Finder.
Construction Begins on
N. Krueger Road
The Village hosted a public open house on May 5 to share information about the N. Krueger Road reconstruction project, which began May 10 and is expected to be completed in three to four months. Existing daffodils planted alongside N. Krueger Road were preserved by relocating them further away from the roadway, which is being resurfaced and widened to add shoulders. View project information, construction updates, schedules and more on the project website at this link, where you can also subscribe to receive updates via email.
Village Introduces Long Grove Legacy Web Page
The Village offers its condolences to the families of community volunteers Kathleen Wiberg and Tony Berg, who passed away earlier this year. These generous individuals played important roles in making Long Grove a strong community. Information about their lasting contributions is included on the Village’s new web page Long Grove Legacy. If you know of an individual who has passed on and contributed to the betterment of Long Grove through volunteering, visit this link to learn how information can be shared through this memorial web page.
Applications Being Accepted for Village Clerk
The Village is accepting applications for Village Clerk to fill the position previously held by Amy Gayton, who did not seek reelection. Responsibilities of this volunteer position include supporting the Village Board legislative process and serving as the custodian of the Official Record of Long Grove. Other duties are to attend Village Board meetings, prepare meeting minutes, certify public documents, and manage additional assignments. Applicants must be registered voters and residents of Long Grove. To apply, complete a Volunteer Profile Sheet and email it to Sherry Shlagman for consideration.
Protecting Pets from
Native Predators
Coyotes and other native predators co-exist with domestic animals and can put unprotected pets at risk of injury. Coyotes are present throughout Illinois - whether seen or unseen – and can appear at any time of the day or night. Pet owners are reminded to always accompany pets outside at night and to remain in well-lit areas. Remember to keep pets leashed when outside of their owner’s property – and be mindful that electric fences may keep pets in, but they do not keep coyotes out. Owners may also want to carry a small air horn to use as a deterrent to approaching coyotes.
Courtesy Reminders for
Dog Walkers
Warmer weather brings more opportunities to walk dogs on Long Grove’s beautiful sidewalks and paths. Please remember to observe proper dog etiquette when out and about with your pet! Dogs must be leashed at all times; although your dog may be friendly, many residents may be fearful and there is always a risk your pet could run into traffic. Don’t forget to pack bags to clean up after your pet, as no one wants to encounter pet waste. Please also monitor barking and keep your dog away from other pets unless owners consent to a meeting. More pet etiquette tips can be found here.
Mosquito Abatement with Clarke Control Services
Clarke Control Services, the company that conducts mosquito abatement for the Village, will be entering public and private properties to test for mosquitoes breeding in lakes, ponds and other areas with standing water. If a site is determined to be active, Clarke will treat the water with an organic-based larvicide and monitor the area throughout the season. Larvicides destroy mosquitoes’ eggs and are safer for the environment than spraying. The Village does allow spraying, and homeowners or neighborhoods can choose to contract privately with Clarke or other similar agencies for these services. Residents can call Clarke at 630-894-2000 or use their portal to report standing water which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Clarke will respond directly back to residents. To learn more about environmentally responsible mosquito control, visit the Village’s Sustainability web page.
Controlled Burn at Buffalo Creek Park
You may have seen blackened grounds or witnessed the controlled burn that took place earlier this month at Buffalo Creek Park in downtown Long Grove. The prescribed burn is a standard practice of the Park District to manage native habitats by removing accumulated layers of duff (built-up dead vegetation), which encourages desirable plant species to grow while discouraging weeds. Burning off duff layers allows the Park District to broadcast native seeds on the newly exposed soil, giving them the best chance to germinate.

Woodlands and other open spaces need periodic slow, prescribed burns to fertilize soils and to keep weedy trees and invasive and introduced plants under control. More information on these conservation practices can be found at lgparks.org.
