The Meaning of Good Friday
Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Many Christians spend Good Friday in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ. Until the 4th century, Jesus’ Last Supper, his death, and his Resurrection were observed in one single commemoration on the evening before Easter. Since then, those three events have been observed separately—Easter, as the commemoration of Jesus’ Resurrection, being considered the pivotal event. Learn more about Good Friday.
